PIC Request: Kayak in 4th Gen Factory Roof Rack and Cross Bars

So two "Sit In" boats can fit in factory cross bars specially if they are in saddles. "Sit On Tops" are wider, IMO I need to have a combination of 2 "J" carriers, or saddles plus "J" carrier, or a Kayak stacker type rack.

Thule J Brackets on factory roof rack cross bars. Picked them up at Dicks Sporting Goods.

Sorry no pics.....I use the factory mount with some "J" racks off Amazon ($35 I think). 2 boats ride rock solid. If you want a little more stability you can adjust the racks so the bottoms just barely touch at the top (forming basically an A-frame) and pad them with a pool noodle or similar. So long as you anchor the bow/stern with some lines you can haul about anything that way (a 14' and 17' were no problem).

I made some loops of "mule tape" I got from a friend who does electrical and I feed them around the hood hinges for a front tieoff location. The loops poke out near the cowl and serve as a good place to run cords. I can still open the hood almost all the way too in case I need to check fluids or other maintenance while I'm on the road. No rubbing or other problems so far.

Looking for some J hooks as I have plan for another kayak. What brand and how sturdy is it? Also I was thinking of rigging some kind of eye loop around the front grill so I can tie from the front.

I forgot the name but I got this kayak rack like 2 yrs ago and I have it on the stock cross bars, only concern I have is that the screws are a little too long so If i don't set them properly they touch the roof beside that it's very simple to get them in or out

Here is my setup. The first thing I did when I bought my truck was replace the factory racks with Thule crossbars. I believe they are a zillion times more useful in general, and also look great!

I use Thule Hull-A-Port Pro kayak racks for the sea kayaks, and foam pads on the bars for the smaller boats. I use the straps that came with the racks. I try to center the boats over the cradles as close to the bulkheads or around the cockpit as possible, and tie down the down and stern to my light bar and trailer hitch.

When loading onto the roof, I strap a folded towel to my spoiler. My heaviest boat is 52lbs. I pick it up and place the bow far up onto the spoiler, then lift it right onto the cradle and slide it forwards. Never had a problem or any kind of damage to the spoiler.

Does anyone have a solution for mounting a 12 foot kayak with a RTT already on top? I was considering an inflatable, but would prefer to stick to a hardshell kayak.

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I'm not really on here anymore, I have a Tundra now...

I used what Thule USA suggested on their website for the crossbars and feet. I don't know the numbers, sorry!

I know this thread is ancient ... and I know this isn't technically a kayak attached directly to the factory crossbars ... but what the heck, here's my setup with Yakima's attached to my factory racks.
