I rode a 1000 before.... But I rented one just like the one I bought in Colorado last year, and the ride is like silk compared to ANY 4runner suspension you can dream in.
You bow down and worship my debt....lol. I will throw up some videos when we make it down to Hatfields and Mccoys in WV next week.
It's hard to get use to playing around with all that extra back there, I wanted a 2 seater, but my boys hate riding on the hood... I have heard the 4s can climb out of drainage ditches like a boss. Guess we will see

Congrats on your new toy, but I hate these things. My trails and roads are absolutely clogged with yahoos driving these, and I haven't met one yet that had any idea what the rest of us (moto, ATV, 4x4, mtn bikers, etc) go through to keep our trails open. Driving through the southern Utah backcountry last month, 9 in 10 of the illegal off-trail tracks heading away from the established trail were UTV/SxS width. When I was down there last year we were hanging at Picture Frame Arch when a whole crew of losers driving Razors came by - they all had open headers or glasspacks, they all had speaker pods blasting rap or country or buttrock at full volume, and they didn't even bother to slow down as they blew through. They don't stay on legal routes, they don't wait their turn when the trail gets clogged, they have no idea how to be polite on the trail or how to enjoy the backcountry in a way that lets others enjoy it too. They all suck.
No offense meant to you, TOY2G, I know you'll use yours responsibly, but you'll be in a distinct minority. These mini-Jeeps In A Box make the backcountry far too accessible to dumb ****ers with too much money and too little sense, and they're going to get trails closed. I'd love to see areas start banning them.

I second [MENTION=49649]KidVermicious[/MENTION] opinion. I live 10 minutes away from Burning Rock, which is over 200 miles of trails set up just for 4Wheelers and SxS. I have ridden with friends on dirt bikes through there several times and had a good time - until the SxS crowd shows up. Apparently your IQ cannot be over 68 to ride one of these down here. I know you are a good guy [MENTION=64685]TOY2G[/MENTION] but man, you will understand once you get to Hatfields and McCoy trails. They have a trail head about an hour from here. Living where I do I would have one except then I would be lumped in with the vast majority of dumbasses that own one. It used to be a common sight here to see a broken down single wide trailer with cars rusting in a weed choked yard, while there was a brand new pickup and a satellite dish in the mud/dirt driveway. Now the dish is gone and replaced with what? You guessed it - a Side by Side.
Bet you don't know what the unofficial state flower of WV is? A satellite dish of course. There used to be one growing in every trailer yard here.
Oh, and down here you need a new 4X4 F350 Super Duty Diesel running twin stacks out the bed next to the cab to pull your SxS. Seriously, that's the truck of choice here. Dirt bike? Fine. 4Wheeler? All good too. Side by Side? Apparently that's where the intelligence stops.

interesting you say that. The group of people at the FJ Summit every year that really gets me seeing red are the UTVs. I just assumed they were all A$$Olez because they were renting them and did not know better. but they never yeild..up hill, down hill, across bridges, around corners... they always seem to think they have the ROW. I wonder what it is about these things that make people abandon all good judgement.

I truly hope its not as bad as you say at H&M, I do not have a good history of dealing with people who wear the chin strap on their asshat too tight. We are going to Julian WV, and by God, I want to see some back country and enjoy some time with the boys and wife. I had no idea so many tools had one of these things, and tools with money to blow are the worst kind.
I gotta run, they should be done installing the awesome exhaust on my new tow rig.....I need to get it back here so i can finish installing the nekid girl mud flaps and anti Prius stickers.

My theory is because they're easy to access. They don't require the skill level of a motorcycle or quad to stay safe, they don't require the investment of time it takes to build a trail truck, and they don't carry the same risk of damage as a full size vehicle. So all the morons that were staying out of the sport because they were too intimidated to do it right now have an in, and they're using it.
It's not that they've abandoned good judgement - they never had it in the first place. They haven't earned their trail time (through learning to ride or learning to build) and so they're completely unaware of the rules of the trail. Give it 20 years, and the UTV/SxS community will probably be as educated as the other offroad communities, but in 20 years the damage will have been done.
Like I said, I hate them. I want 'em off my trails, and I don't care how much fun they are, you won't catch me dead owning one.

I've heard all of these rantings before, an absolutely agree with them, but to shine a glimmer of hope on side x sides, up here in New England, on the trails in New Hampshire, Vermont, Upstate NY, etc, the people that drive them are usually one of two things; very responsible and considerate of the trails, or they are 50+. I've ridden ATV's and dirt bikes my entire life, as have my parents, and family friends who live nearby. The family friends are getting into their 50's now, and riding ATV's, even with EPS, is getting to be a challenge. The main reason for entry into the side x side market, around me at least, is the fact that ATV's and Dirt Bikes are just getting too physically challenging to ride, and like [MENTION=49649]KidVermicious[/MENTION] said, they are very easy to get into, and don't require near as much skill as a handlebar based bike.
Hopefully this mentality permeates into your areas of the country, but naturally, for every sensible person, theres two idiots. such is life.
Kid may like Ohio, I am not allowed in any state parks with my SxS. HOWEVER, the 2 seat versions that are 50" wide can go as much as they wish. My thinking is..I have a 4-seater because i have a family, and many of the 2 seat versions are just jackoffs out screwing around. If i were king of the world I would rather have the family style 4 seat side by sides in the state parks rather than the little hotrod ones.

When I was down in Moab last I saw a really nicely build EB driving around. My favorite part was the paint job, which proclaimed "The Original Side By Side". I think that honor probably goes to the Willys, but still, I wanted to buy that guy a beer.

I have already told you to come down here for mtn biking. Trails are free, I will lend you the bike and the best part is you can eat whatever you want because you are going to burn it off next ride! Seriously, I have had dirt bikes and four wheelers when I was younger and loved them. I still ride a dirt bike occasionally but my passion is mtn biking. The douches on the side by sides are amazing. Apparently if you are too dumb to ride a bike or four wheeler you get a side by side. Oh, the pic of the Ford you posted? Get ready to see all of its brothers down here, along with all of your favorite "Cummins" and "Powerstroke" cute stickers. And truck balls. And huge shackles and chains mounted on the front of their lifted GMC trucks that are new and cost 70K! We even have an OEM dealer for those here. Holy hell...idiots with money .
I acually do intend to come down and ride with you, I have a new(er) 2012 Raleigh Sport with less than 80 miles on it. I would love to get back into riding, and eating whatever I want.

Unfortunately I have to agree with all of you guys. The SxS concept is awesome, they are incredibly capable machines and I'd rather beat one of those up than my daily driver. The problem lies with the technology making it easier for idiots to access areas we love and actually have a lot of respect for. It sucks to say, because everyone should be able to enjoy what we do, but it seems to be difficult to convey the 'rules of the road' out there.
We mostly have to deal with high school idiots heading up to national forest to drink and do drugs, but they trash up our areas too, inevitably bringing in the forest service to clean it up and put in gates that stay locked all year round.

I just want to give a friendly warning to anyone who thinks they might want one of these things.
I bought it for a not so great price (Polaris does not understand discounts) and then I added a few options, roof, wind screen, mirrors.... Then we bought helmets for my two boys.
Took it home (Columbus Ohio) and started right away trying to find some place to go trail riding. Called a couple state parks, but as it turns out the 4 person side by side is too wide for the state park 50" limit.
No big deal, found a place in WV called Hatfield and McCoys, they let wider vehicles in. So we found a camp ground at a trail head so we did not have to trailer the SXS to the trail. Reserved a camping spot for the weekend and made some plans.
Next, I decided, I did not want to haul my 18' car hauler around with this thing on it, so I bought a 7x14 enclosed trailer used ($1600)
Now it's Thursday and we are all set to go camping and trail riding the next day. But my wife asks me.....do we have to buy helmets also? Unsure, I tell her to call the the park. So she called...... However in the midst of the conversation, the gentlemen on the other end of the phone informed us that all passengers in a side by side must be able to reach both the seat back and the floor at the same time with no aids......WHAT!!!!!
Keep in mind these are built for adults, so my 3 and 5 year old do not even come close to touching the floors. So we asked about car seats, and we were not only told no, but greater with a laugh.
If you are keeping score, we cannot ride in OH or PA due to width and we cannot ride in WV until our children are full size humans. So we changed plans and decided to go rafting....turns out, in OH you have to be 6 or older to be in the raft (even though both of our boys have been rafting several times before).
Solution.... We'll move to a family friendly state, drive to OK to ride, put the SXS in the trailer for roughly 12 years until the boys can ride and then go try it out, or lastly, just give up and realize I made a spur of the moment purchase on an overpriced toy for tools and now I am stuck with it and the shame of being a RZR owner....
FS: Polaris RZR4 800 aprox 10 miles on it, new everything, comes with trailer and two youth helmets, not recommended for Families, people with good judgment, citizens of OH, PA, MI, NJ, TN.....willing to trade for a couple ounces of pride and you assume the note.

If you wanna sell that thing put it on a Dodge or a Ford forum, preferably a diesel subforum. You will sell it for twice what you paid if you only run the exhaust through the top of it.
Sorry about your luck dude. You will have to wait a bit for your kids to get a little older before doing stuff that could involve lawsuits. Me? When my kids were that age we would hike up to a local swimming hole and let them swing on a rope and jump in, or jump off the lower sections of the falls. We would also RIDE BIKES! Mountain Bikes! Do things that you can do as a family that do not involve any outside company or organization like primitive camping or RIDING BIKES!

We do alot of camping as is, I ride on a regular basis (now that its warm), not fun riding, just riding to relax. I really want to get my boys into some sort of outdoor activity, and I had high hopes for rafting since they both liked it when we went in Oregon and Colorado.
I think i know how to sell the Polaris..... you have to make it even more useless...
