i picked up a 1997 toyota 4runner limited for $1800

original owner and plenty of records. but it has 308k miles and he said it might not pass smog.

ive had a couple toyota trucks/4runners before so i wasnt scared or worried about it . it drives fine. everything works. leather. its nice, i couldnt pass it up for the price. ive been wanting a toyota again. and i just happened to come across this one .

i took it to a no pass no pay smog shop, and just like he said it didnt pass! for high knocks no2 at idle speed.

luckily i work at a Napa Auto Parts. and i get 10% above store cost. so i did a basic tune up:

oil change, fuel filter, spark plugs/wires, K&N intake. sea foam liquid in the tank, sea foam spray into the intake.

ran all the additives thru the truck and got fresh chevron premium gas and took it back to the smog shop. But...... unfortunately it did not pass again, even tho it got a lot better than IT WAS....A LOT BETTER!!!. i talked to the smog guy. he said its in the fuel management and its running too hot and lean.

so i did some research and decided to do the fuel injectors. with my discount. its not that bad and thats where the clues lead me to.

did the injectors and plenums. AND IT PASSED. the emission look great now

put about $300+ into the runner

$2100 for the 4runner all said and done... im STOKED!!!!!

i would like to start upgrading and doing some mods. ive been trolling this site for a while now looking at build threads, mod threads, pretty much everything.

i have an idea of what i want to do, but i propose a question to some of the long standing member of this site or anyone that has insight on this.

i want to do about a 3 inch lift (coils, shocks, struts)... not just the spacer/stock suspension. and tires soon.

so in previous post i have mentioned that i work at a NAPA AUTO PART STORE
and i get a great deal on parts. only thing is, that i cant get deals on aftermarket parts. usually only if it came stock on the vehicle.

for instance, im going to do the tundra 231mm brake up grade. because we stock those calipers, rotors, and pads. and they're cheap.

does anyone have info on a lift that i could piece together from stock parts..
maybe the lc 8 wraps ive been reading about. please let me know. and thank you.

im trying to get this runner lifted/tires soon.
