I bought my 4runner a little over a month ago. When i got it, it had some 06 4runner wheels, and a set of michelin LTX 265/70/17 tires on it. The previous owner had to install a set of wheel spacers, since the 4th generation wheels have different offsets. Well, the spacers were not hub-centric, which caused CRAZY vibration. Needless to say, i scrapped that wheel, and tire set up for a good used set of 02 sport wheels i found on the local craigslist. I then proceeded to search for a set of tires. since the 4runner already had a lift on it, i decided to go with some 285/75/16 tires. I have always liked the look of the BF Goodrich A/T tires, so naturally they had to go on the 4runner. I then addressed the issue with the steering. The thing was all over the road, the previous owner installed the poly bushings on the steering rack, so i knew those were ok. What i found was, play in the steering rack, both inner, and outer tie rods were bad, and the rack was leaking. I decided to replace the complete rack, with new outer tie rods. Next was the issue with the front CV joints, to remedy this i just replaced the complete axles on both sides. Upon doing a more in depth inspection of the vehicle, i fount that the passenger rear axle seal was leaking.....back to Advance auto for more parts! About a week later, i decided to tackle the timing belt, since the motor had 156k on it and it had never been changed out. Of course the water pump was replaced at this time too.
For years, i have been into forced induction cars. Mostly 3rd generation Mazda Rx7s. Naturally since i knew you could buy a TRD supercharger for these vehicles, i started searching for one. I happened upon Ebay, and found a first generation charger. the bidding was up to just a little over $400, i figured i would place a bid on it just for the hell of it. My maximum bid was $700. I figured it would get over that easily. Luckally no one else bid on it, so i got it shipped to my door for a little over $460. I was expecting to at least rebuild the nose. but to my surprise, it was in perfect shape, with all of the hardware, dynamic tensioner, and FMU. The only thing not included was the check valve, and the TB gasket. I had an old PCV valve left over from my Rx7 parts stash. I used it for my check valve, and i modified the stock gasket to be round. I could not wait for the weekend to do the install. Finally.....the weekend rolled around, it was time for the supercharger install....I had done lots of research on the install that way there would be no surprises. It seemed pretty simple anyways. well, i did the install, and it only took a little over 2 hours to do it. the biggest ***** was having to remove all the belts again to do the tensioner pulley. The vacuum lines were different from the 2nd generation supercharger install, but was extremely easy to figure out. anyways, here are some pics. do you like the TRD red wire tie? LOL
