Rory inquired as to a change of venue to the saddleback mountain trail. Do you guys have any feedback. Personally I could care less. One thing to mention is "offically" the Cleveland national forest is closed until further notice. Is this a problem?

After some additional research I ordered Midland 75-822 handheld CB with a Cobra HGA1500 High Gear Antenna. The Wilson1000 Mag Antenna is nice but a bit pricey almost the price of the CB- will keep in mind to purchase in the future depending on how the cheaper Cobra antenna performs. I will only be using the CB on trails.

Out of respect for those with 2wd we should just stick to Trabuco Creek Trail this time. The only way to get to Santiago is up the 74 and enter from the main divide. That's really not a problem in and of itself, and I don't think that 2wd is a problem for that route when conditions are dry. With the recent rain I'm not sure it would be a good idea for 2wd without someone doing a pre-run first.

We should plan a trip up there some time for sure. It's a great spot for pictures of with an awesome background.
 
Anybody know how much rain fall there was out there? It's supposed to rain again tomorrow and its supposed to be the worst part of this storm.
 
Drew - I have no idea how much rain is going to drop. According to Google Weather, its not supposed to rain at all. Do you feel the same way about sticking to Holy Jim Trail?
 
The North Main Divide Rd to Santiago Peak is closed at Indian Truck Trail. It's expected to be closed for at least another month. You can go from Hwy 74 to Hwy 15 taking this route though.
 
well i just read on the ttora forum a couple guys posted that Holy Jim is pretty washed out and rocky. hmmmmmmmm
 
That road has always been on the rough side, no surprise there. I use to take my Camaro through there. The good thing about this trip is that it will be a great opportunity to meet, and get a group of weekend warriors started for future runs.

We still will have the option, although we can't get to Saddleback (Santiago Peak), we could divert and take the Main Divide as far as we can and then head down Indian truck trail to the 15fwy. That would be a longer, and more scenic run.

I don't know anyone so I'm open to suggestions too, and Holy Jim is fine by me.

Is the indian truck trail a paved road or dirt? i don't know much about the OC trails down there. I think we will have stuff to discuss at the meet site and take a majority vote. I just don't want this run to be a bust.

I hear you, Doesn't matter to me where we go. I'm ready to have some fun, and meeting everyone too.

In any case, it's all dirt once you get past the gate off of Ortega Hwy. It's a fire road that's mostly a flat route with small climbs to the turnoff for Indian Truck Trail (that's where the gate is closed to SP), then it's all pretty much downhill from there to the 15fwy.
 
I am also looking forward to meeting everyone. I can care less where we go. Regardless of where we go, how much time should be devote to this trip?

SAW's are Sway away coilovers. They provide 0-3 inches of lift by preloading the coils. I've proloaded the coils to level the front with the rear. Right now i have 265/70/16 Bridgestone Dueler H/T's890's the stock tires. I want to go to a 285/75/16 BFG A/T's, Mickey Thompson BajaClaws or Toyo M/T's. Having a hard time deciding.
