Pics From Texas State Fair

Long-time lurker saying thanks to everyone for all the info leading up to the launch of the new T4R. I went to the State Fair Saturday morning and took a few pics.

There was a Black Trail Edition, Gray Limited, Silver SR5 and a Rubicon survivor. They look great "in person".

Still not feeling the love. I think its the square edges at front and back that are throwing me off.

The TE looked really sharp in black and I agree w/ you that the lines look better vs. the SR5 and Limited. I don't like the black overfenders - they should be color-keyed IMO.

I like the new design. I had 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens but passed on the 4th gen. I just didn't care for the exterior design at all.

Some good news about the TE and SR5. The rep at the show said it does have a Torsen center differential. He said you can drive up to 62 mph on pavement in 4wd. The differential engages automatically. I hope this guy knows what he's talking about. When I first asked him, he didn't know the answer. He found me later and said he called to find out the correct answer.

Why does the SR5 look like the Limited? I also had the first and 2nd gens and currently have 2 3rd gens. Skipped the fourth gen because of its "blah" exterior. This 5th gen looks hot in Trail trim!
 
Thanks for the great pictures! I wish I was closer to TX so I can check them out in person instead of waiting an extra 2 months! I love the TE, but the rims don't seem to look right.

Color me skeptical. My 4th gen Limited has a Torsen center diff. There is no speed limitation on pavement.

First of all thanks for the pics.

Secondly, I learned back in 1999 NEVER EVER to trust what a Toyota rep say...they are uninformed, dont care to accurately check your inquiry and simply cannot know everything about all the various toyota vehicle and options offered on each. When shopping for my 1999 they told me that the button on the LTD was nothing more than a simple way to engage 4WD rather than puilling the lever like on the SR5 and Highlander models. Little did I realize what "multi-mode" really was and its benefits. Shortly thereafter I found VMags 4R Forums and found out the real difference. Dont make the same mistake. There is NO center diff on the SR5 and TE for the 5th Gen.
 
I like the look for that SR5.

I wish after the 2nd year Toyota starts to color the over fenders of the TE. I remember the 2003 4runners looked horrible with the non painted fenders.
 
Whats the difference in the 5th gen that allows them to spin the tires in 4wd mode? I noticed on the video that when one wheel was off the ground, you could see 2 of the 4 wheels spinning.

I tried that in my 4th gen and all the truck kept doing is applying the brakes to slow down the tire spin.
 
I really hope by the time I am ready to get my new 4runner (bout 2 years from now) they come up with the White TE...with them balckout headlights and some black rims?...OMG ..simply beautiful.

the difference in the 5th gen that allows the tire to spin more than the 4th gen could be the more agressive A-Trac programming and associated button or it could be the Multi-Terrain Select feature.

"The Trail grade also features a Multi-Terrain Select system which allows the 4x4 operator to dial in wheel slip control to match the terrain. In loose terrain such as mud and sand, more-than-normal wheel slip is permitted, allowing wheel-spin to work in the vehicle’s favor. On bumpy moguls, or solid rock, wheel slip is minimized and the system acts more like a limited slip. The Mogul setting is for any extremely uneven terrain, such as V-ditches, slopes, and ridges, uphill or down."
