Pink Milkshake Alarm?

Hello,

Running through a 97 T4R with a 2.7 that I just picked up. Finished a transmission and radiator flush from a reputable garage after assuring me the machines would be fine for the engine. Fast forward to a week after the work was done. I checked the trans. fluid level before a long trip and noticed it was slightly high. (note. I checked fluid in the correct manner on level grade lot)

I went under to let out a few ounces to get the level on the hashmarks. I might be over-reacting, but the fluid had a slightly pink colour to it. However, it was not thick. The tranny was and has been shifting excellent. I was hoping the tranny fluid would be closer to red as it was just completely flushed. I just finished all fluid changes and MAF and throttle body cleaning, the truck is running really nice. I'm just a little freaked out about the colour! (sorry I wasn't able to take a picture)

Any advice appreciated. I realize I should get the trans cooler, but perhaps something needs to be done prior to this. Thanks.

If you are in doubt about the fluid, you should drain it out and see what it looks like in a bucket. Sure it's a few bucks, but more new fluid never hurt anything.

What's your coolant look like?

Coolant looks normal. Yes, going to have to do another flush and have a visual for peace of mind.

Does the 2.7 use the same radiator as the 3.4? If not, you might be overreacting.

Thanks for advice. GA, can you explain why the 2.7 would be ok if it had a different radiator?

Also, can anyone post the correct transmission filter for a 2.7l? I can't seem to find that info. on the net, its either the 'narrow' one or the 'square' one.

I just put in a new rad recently and i am fairly sure it said for either 2.7 or 3.4. You do realize that dilluted toyota red, or pre-dilluted toyota coolant or zerex asian formula are pinkish in color, right?

The keyword in pink milkshake is the milkshake part. Is it milkshake-ish?

is your coolant "frothy" or foamy, look in your overflow tank, fresh trans fluid will look pink if their is not a high volume of it, its not always a dark red either. some brands are a lighter red. i think you may be over reacting here a little.

This problem is quite an issue. It happens fairly regular. Because of which, I have completely bypassed the radiator. I have also added a magnetic radiator fiter. If I wasn't already eating ice cream, this thread would have made me want a milkshake.

As long as it's clear, it should be fine, as far as I've seen. If the rad is super old, just get that replaced and you won't have to worry about it.

Yes, the fresh ATF fluid was cherry red, now it is more pinkish. I'm going to do a drain and re-fill for closer inspection. Will try and post photos. The coolant in overflow tank is slightly yellow, but not frothy or foamy. Rad coolant looks good.

I'm wondering if the rad flush caused any disturbances. It is the original rad.
