Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX and trim fit

Hey guys. Do any of you guys own the Pioneer AVIC-8100NEX or similar models? If so, have you guys had any trouble with accessibility to the bottom controls of the radio due to the trim around the radio? I am strongly considering buying one but I am worried that the trim will make it hard to press the volume button. Thanks!

I have a pioneer head unit in my truck but the buttons are on the side. Similar size though and it fit without any issues or trim ring required. It looks factory fit and finish

I have the Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX which should be the same or similar size:

As you can see if fits perfectly. If I was to do it all over again, I would buy a head unit with KNOBS. It has been about 3 months and I still have not adjusted to the smaller buttons. I went with this head unit since it was in my lady's old vehicle. I swapped it over to my truck when we got rid of her car.

Good point about the knobs. Unfortunately, there are no HU that I like that supports Android auto with a knob. As far as the antenna goes, is the power antenna always up or does it go down when the radio is not in use?

I don't ever use the radio. Come to think of it, I never use my radio. My antenna is broken, just like most of everyone here. I have parts to replace it with an antenna that does not have a motor. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. So, I can't answer your antenna question.

Mine fits fine and the volume buttons are not blocked at all when the screen is flat. All I had to do was take a razor knife and trim 1 or 2mm off the bottom trim so the screen would move freely.

Not the NEX but same body.

Antenna is always down, I'm sure you can rig it to work with the head unit though. I just didn't like it and don't listen to radio.

You will need a cheap wiring adapter like the one posted above.
