Places to take my new toy off road near charlottesville va?

I am used to driving on many different surfaces including snow (born and raised in Michigan), Sand from Cape Hatteras (before they closed most of it this year anyways)

All Ideas are appreciated. Also camping areas are plentiful... what are some remote ones that are favorites?

There are several trails in GW Nat'l Forest west of Harrisonburg, as well as trails near Crabtree Falls.

I'd recommend posting/peeking in the regional section on T4R every now and then, and also checking out the Southeast forum on Expedition portal (another forum) to meet up with local, like minded folks.

GW trails close in Winter...

You can find them on the GW National Forest website...one is named Peters Mill Run. Put that in the search and it will come up.

back when I had my 3rd gen, we would often go to GWNF and wheel. A trail called Flagpole leads up to the top of the mountain where there is a beautiful campsite that overlooks the GWNF.
