Planning for lens restore plus HID retrofit

The lenses on my 06 4runner are getting a little be foggy up at the top so Im thinking that I would like to restore them the right way if anybody has any tips/tricks to make that easier they would be greatly appreciated. I also already have a set of morimoto D2S 4.0 projectors sitting at home that I would like to retrofit into my OEM housings. I am planning to buy these mounting brackets. 2003-2009 Toyota 4 Runner MD2S 4.0/G5 C-Bracket – Custom Brackets & Designs

My concern is whether or not the d2s 4.0 projectors will fit behind the OEM projector shrouds or if I will need to plan on buying new shrouds in which case I may just end up installing the d2s projector in the high beam side and discontinuing but leaving the oem projector in place???
I also have TRS headlight sealant already.
I will probably be ordering my HID kit from xenon depot as I recently have had nothing but problems with my parts from TRS and while they cover/ warranty the parts, it is still a gigantic PITA to replace a ballast 2x a year

Those brackets are designed to fit behind the existing shrouding.

TRS recently bought out Xenon Depot by the way, still the same pre-buyout products (for now) though.

Yes those brackets are a bolt in job on your 06 headlights with those projectors and your stock shrouds no need for other parts, took me under 3 hrs to bake and bolt and rebake and install. I used G5-R projectors but same sizing. I used new eagle eyes brand sport headlights, they went back together with the sealant that they already had in them. Hooked up the HID kits with bi-xenon triggers and they've been one of the best upgrades I've done to mine.
 
I've done a set of lights with the 4.0's and now the 5.0's. Both fit just fine. The bracket was a godsend.

The larger lens does not fit into the bezel without modification. The first time around I trimmed the bezel to increase the diameter. With the 5.0's I cut the bezel out completely and used a shroud...much easier and nicer looking IMO.
 
Whatever method you choose to make the plastic lens clear again (I use Duragloss Plastic Polish), make sure you do something about protecting from UV rays.

I use clear headlight film (3M) for such.

How long does the headlight film last? Is that a one and done thing or do you have to reapply semiannually/annually?

I ordered everything from Lightwerkz due to your post on the other black headlamps thread. Also ordered the Eagle brand housings you linked me.

I got the G5R's as well as the Brackets Lightwerkz sells, which are really just the brackets linked earlier... LW sells them for more but they had a 10% code anyways if you spend like $200 or more so I just ordered it all through them. Still waiting on the brackets but have everything else.

Haven't totalled it all up but probably close to $500 for everything. Want to get some type of clear UV film for the headlamps too.

Eagle Brand Sport housings (ebay)
G5R projector
Brackets
Morimoto Elite D2S 5500k 35W ballasts
HD Relay Harness to adapt to low beams
Bi-Xenon pig tails
Morimoto Butyl Sealant (just in case)

Depends how it's cared for and how well you apply it.
I'm no scientist, but I got mine from a tint shop, they maybe able to sell you scraps for pennies on the dollar.

Dilute a dish of water with dawn soap, and apply with squeegee and hairdryer to stretch around bends.

I'm pretty lazy, did not remove the housings from the car, so I just run an exacto with a tiny bit of overlap and use the squeegee and heatgun to fold the ends over.

Held on tight on my old car for 3 years, and I abuse it pretty good. (touchless car washes in winter, parked outside) and no real adverse affects. Minor swirling from being sandblasted, but it remained clear until I sold it.

Of course, I am assuming that your prep will leave a crystal clear lens prior to the film, though the film will mask minor imperfections. The film will "lock in" major imperfections otherwise.
 
If anyone is interested in a low cost budget projector solution. I have some ACME D2S 2.0 Bixenon with TRS brackets they sold with them for sale for a cheap price.

the projectors are not good compared to the latest offerings.

although i started out with those, when you switch to better ones, you never go back to the old.

I know! read above, I got G5R's ready to go in. But for someone that wants an real bi-xenon D2S projector for way cheaper. Better than OEM halogens for sure...
 
Would it even be worth it to try to restore the headlight lens or am I better off just buying a $100 set of housings and doing my retrofit on those and just making sure to carefully reseal them and possible add a breather vent with the 3M goretex vent stickers?

Edit: would I run into any issues trying to put one of the brackets i posted into cheap aftermarket headlights?

I just ordered tyc left and right headlights from rockauto. I will be starting my retrofit on tuesday when they get delivered
I have morimoto profile hi lens led for my hi beam, d2s 4.0 for my low beam and the inside is gonna be painted black.
I also bought some headlight vents from TRS along with 2 rolls of TRS retro rubber for resealing the healights. A question I have is will a good application of the retorubber be enough to prevent fogging inside my housings or should I add in some of those extra vents as well?
 
I have not had any issues with condensation in the housing. My headlights have been on for about a month now since I finished my HID projector retrofit. If you ordered 2 sets of the morimoto retro rubber, you'll have enough to do 2 sets of headlights.
