Plasti-dip question

I'd like to plasti-dip the center portion of my grill black.

This will obviously involve taping off the remainder of the grille.

I plan on doing 3 coats.

Do I need to remove the masking tape after each coat and then re-apply?

Or ...

Will it be OK to do 3 separate coats with 30 minutes of wait time in between and then remove the tape?

I want to avoid pulling off the plasti-dip in the locations where I actually want it to cover.

mask, spray (I did like 4-5 coats), let it dry, peel off tape. Just did mine and had zero issues.

You want to mask off and leave about an inch over the area you're spraying so you have something to peel off. I let my coats dry for about 6-7 minutes and put on another coat. The more coats you put, the easier it is to peel off!

My main concern was doing this and then having the plasti-dip peel off the area where I actually want it to cover when pulling the tape off.

It sounds like, based on your experience, that this will not be a problem.

Nope...Shouldn't be a problem at all!

I'm about to do the same, although I've worked with The Dip before. You can use a razor to finely cut the perimeter after you've sprayed to be certain nothing extra pulls off.

This! It's a PITA! They say 4 coats should do it, but my 4 coats weren't nearly thick enough. I put 6 on and all was good

yeah I did 5 coats on the center grill piece, the more the better. even with 5 coats a rock or something managed to pierce it and make it look bad, or some A-hole picked at it.

Id do about 5-6 coats, waiting about 20 min between coats, just make sure you don't get carried away with your coats, build up a nice base by just dusting it on there and then add more and more as you go.
