Plasti-dipped the runner

So, I had done the fender flares and rocker panels last September in black. They have done fantastic with almost zero fade and no (that's right) peeling. Multiple pressure washes and too many to count auto washes with no issues. I read a lot of posts from haters. I think the step that all have been missing, remove the wax so the plasti-dip has something to hold on to. Pics are below, before, during, and after. If I had to do over, I would skip the matte clear. The clear spray left a "sticky" to the touch feeling. Otherwise, I like it. What do you guys think?

Looks rad, I'm more than impressed that it holds up to pressure washing. What exactly did you do to remove the wax? Clay bar?
 
i really want to see more pictures at different angles.

did you just use rattle cans? how many cans? did you get any zebra stripes?...

I'll get you some later today. No zebra safari stripes. Zebras aren't native to Colorado lol. I used a spray gun, it would have equated 10-11 cans.
 
Personally I am not a huge fan of vehicles 100% pastidipped but other people's opinions don't matter a bit. If you enjoy it then please keep doing what you want my friend. For what it's worth, you did a decent job and I know it takes a ton of work to do that.

I'm getting ready to do the bumpers and body cladding on my '99 LTD along with the running board delete, I'll post pictures of the process.
 
One thing alot of guys forget after they "dip" there cars is when getting gas be very careful not to drip any on the plastidip.

My brother had his 350z dipped a nice metallic grey for a few days. Got gas forgot about the drip and ruined the whole thing. Alot of time wasted.

I am certain they sell little funnels you can use to get gas to prevent any drips.

Otherwise I think it looks badass. Let us know how it holds up over the next few months.

I am *very* curious about your fender flare plasti-dipping though! I'm in Denver, and will probably be looking to tackle this after I address a few more urgent mechanical needs (so, prob in a month or two). The part about removing the wax makes a ton of sense, and then not putting the gloss over it. That might have just saved me a lot of trouble!

Did you remove the flares to paint them?
 
I didn't remove the fenders, just taped them off. Heads up, the rubber trim that goes between the fender and fender flare is not a good surface for the plasti-dip. It will peel of with the tape.

Ah, thank god you said that. I was really hoping to avoid taking all of them off. I saw there is a DIY thread here to do that, but it still looks like a pain to do.

Good to know about the rubber stuff. What would you recommend to avoid that? Tape over the rubber with blue painters tape and just be careful when removing?
 
plasti dip to me was one of the best innovations to automtoive paint in recent years...if done properly, it looks almost as good if not as good as paint...now they have so many different colors, clear coats, satin and glossy finish coats, metalizers, etc etc...not to mention mine has been on for a year through several washes...all for 6 bucks a can? I was gonna paint or powder coat my TEP wheels, but why spend the money? average joe cant tell the difference
