Plastic things under roof rack??

I was wondering what these plastic things are when you pull the butt end off the roof rack. I have rust there and was wondering what these pieces are for. Do they need to be replaced or can I live with out them?

i just repainted my rack and spotted those things also. like you I am clueless as to what they do.

Those are what the clip or screw goes into to hole the rails to the roof. Of you can get them out with out breaking them you could Reuse them. Tack puller from home depot should do the trick.

I found living on the beach these racks are magnets for rust so when I removed mine I popped those things down and glued in some backing, bondo and primer. I like the look without the rack and spoiler too!

Yea but nothing was screwed into mine. The butt end basically just covered that thing.
