Yeah in the same boat as you with the navy blue, but the black wheels still work I think

just did mine this weekend. here's a couple pics. i did 5 coats, and it seems like it's really going to stick well. the badges are a different story, much harder.

Don't over complicate the badges! You can tape off about 1" all around them and then just spray the heck out of them (6-7 coats @ 6" away) and then peel the overspray right up to the badges. The dip will peel around the lettering/badges perfectly without having to tape each letter. I posted some closeups of my 5th Gen badging as well as a link to a Tundra badging youtube video on a thread titled "Plastidip Blackout." Good luck!

When you guys Plasti-Dip your wheels. Are you only spraying the front side of the wheels? or are you spraying the back side as well to get all of the spots that are visible between the spokes.


I'm probably going to do this soon.

Also, like others have said the badges are super easy, just tape a square around the emblem and spray 5 or so coats on then take the tape off and grab the corner of the over spray and peel it off, you need to be careful but if you peel in different directions you'll find that the plasti-dip will trim itself around the letters, it's amazing stuff. I used a tooth pick to help with the little nooks and crannys.

Take your time with it.

thanks, good to know. I only did about 4-5 coats, i think i will do another couple coats like u said.

If you take off your wheels to do so, I would do 1 coat on the back. that is what i did atleast. When you lay the wheels down to spray the front, most of the overspray will coat the backside as well, it will def be enough to atleast make it look black on the back.

I took the lazy man approach and left the wheels on the truck. I did put tire shine all around the tires before I sprayed the (cleaned) wheels so that the overspray would come right off. No taping, no issues. Sprayed about 6 coats with 20 min in between. No spray on the back of the wheels but I don't think it's an issue.

Problems = moisture

I wash them and dry them good, then use my leaf blower on hi to make sure there is NO moisture anywhere. Then a quick wipe down with rubbing alcohol. All good. Also make sure your dip cans are as warm as you can get them prior to spraying. (Heating pad, hot water, etc...)

I have the same thing with my truck..... Some are pretty pitted..... Am thinking I need to wire wheel the worst areas before I dip mine later this spring.....
