play in transfer case flange

I just replaced a joint because of some vibrations that happen right between when you let off and press the gas going 50mph+. They are still there but are better. The front u joints are for sure still good and tight.

This exact same thing happend on my old 87 4runner (replaced u joints but still had vibrations) and the problem was the transfer case flange being loose, which you then had to unstake the nut, retorque it, then stake it down again.

I checked on my 99 limited's transfer case flange and sure enough it was loose too. I am at about 202,000 miles. What i'm wondering though is if the multi mode t case on this 4runner is the same as my other one where you can just retighten the nut. Anyone have any experience with this?

I would imagine you could do that. I'm having some weird clunks and like you, I believed it to be the u-joints. But I was wrong they didn't go away they have only gotten worse. I'm thinking it may be the t case out put. I can rotate the drive shaft a little bit with it in gear. I'm not sure if this is normal
