Playing Video/Movies 2014 4Runner

I'm a pretty tech savvy guy but I cannot figure this out. I have 10-15 movies on my Iphone 5. However, when I browse my iPhone on the NAV screen it says no videos found. Also, when I select the source A/V it just turns to a black blank screen, no sound.

Am I doing something wrong???

Shouldn't a regular DVD play as well? I have tried both iphone and DVD's and get a blank screen as well.

so i went to future shop today and for 20 bucks in there car audio department i found this

the video is played though the aux port using a 3.5mm "VIDEO" cable you will also need to go into your settings and change your video source from usb to aux then your can plug your apple device in and access your videos

You can simply play anything with an A/V out as long as you convert the cable to an (and this is the important part) Audio/Video 3.5mm (headphone type) jack. Do note that the typical right or red lead is the video and the yellow or typical video is the right or red to the component. Not sure why Toyota has it wired this way but I assume it's due to the multi-use of standard aux (audio) as well as video.
