Please help! All 4 windows wont roll up!

I just picked up a 2001 4runner 4x4. It came with a key for the ignition but not for the doors. i have been relying on my alarm toggle to unlock and lock the doors. Today my locks would itermittently work on all doors. I called around and found someone to cut me a key for $35 all i had to do was bring him the door lock cylinder. Got the key cut, put everything back together and was working perfect. About an hour later I got in my truck to go to the store and as soon as I turned the key all 4 windows went down at the same time and now will not roll back up. I have asked a few people and they said I may need a new master doors/windows switch. I have looked around on this forum and cannot find any info on this issue. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I also put a brand new optima battery and changed the battery in my alarm toggle today as well. Please help as I live in Hawaii and it rains often. Need to get my windows rolled up ASAP! Strange - not read of this issue in years on this site.

Having all 4 windows roll down is not a standard runner function.

So I think the alarm (after manufacturer add on) may be involved here. Is yours the RS3200 or another model?

Do you have an FSM? It will contain the electrical circuit logic that can be used to debug (not the alarm's just the standard runner). :cowboy:

I'm assuming that to replace the lock cylinder, he needed to disassemble the door, which requires removing the window switch panel.

Check to make to the panel is plugged all the way back in. Just pop it up with a flat head screwdriver and make sure the connectors are seated.




Also, not sure why he would have needed to, but see if he opened the switch panel.

I had this issue when I replaced the LEDs on my front switches. I think it was just the Passenger front though.

I had to open the panel to change the LED and apparently didn't line it back up perfectly when reassembling so the window switch was pressed constantly.

Also, makes sure the window lock switch isn't pressed. I had a shit myself moment with that once.

While I had the door apart I went ahead and took the master window/door lock switch apart to see if there was any corosion on the circuit board that was possibly causing the door locks to intermittently work. Everything looked extremely clean inside so i put it back together the same way i took it apart. Is it possible I put it back together wrong? I could be wrong but I assume there is only one way to put it back together? Thanks for the help

Thank you for the reply. I tried unplugging and plumbing back in connections already but still no go. While I had the door apart I took apart the master window/ door lock switch to see if there was any corrosion on the circuit board that was causing the door locks to intermittently work. Im going to take the window lock switch apart as soon as the sun comes up to see if I messed something up while I was putting it back together.

BINGO!! When I had taken the master switch apart it got fumbled in my hands and I dropped it onto my desk causing the switches on the circuit board to move to the open position. When I put the top back on, the user switches weren't lined up properly with the circuit board switches causing all windows to roll down as soon as I turned the truck on. Threw me for a loop! Lesson learned, hope this helps someone else down the road. Thank you everyone!

OK THAT's what happened to me. Not that it didn't line up well, but that the switches were flipped.
