I have a 2001 4R 2WD.the other day my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. The ABS, Tracoff, brake and check engine lights came on. On top of that, now the speedomater doesnt work. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is causing all this? Thankns for ANY help.

a friend of mine had the same thing happen and his speedo would go crazy, shooting all the way up to top out and then back and forth. I think the car did it when the keys where in the accesory position and the car wouldn't start. If i remember correctly it was his battery and/or alternator. It was a '06 mazda

After you check your codes i would check those just in case.

Thanks for the help. A friend hooked up a hand held analize and said he got a code 500. He did something and the check engine light went off, but the rest stayed on. Someone said if I go to autozone , the would check it for free. They did say something about the speed sensor could be causing the problem. Isnt that on the Tranny?

yeah it'll be on the transmission, closer towards the output shaft...but don't just throw sensors at it, do some basic diag first, and if all else fails, talk to someone at the stealership

try and stay away from outside shops, as most of them are really grimy and desperate for money, so although you may pay more per service at the dealership, you'll get techs trained extensively on the 15 or so Toyota models and you wont get something like,
"well we replaced the speed sensor, but one of the lights are still on, so we need to look deeper into that. but while we were in there we noticed that you need brakes on all 4 wheels as well as new tires. also your muffler has a few spots of rust on it so we need to replace the entire exhaust system and your wipers are brand new so we'd like to replace them as well"

when auto zone does their diag. they will give you a print out of the possible problems, what codes you are showing and thier meanings. of coarse they are also more than happy to sell you the stuff to fix the prob too.

when you get the codes, post them up on here...there's quite a few other toyota techs, and while its tough to diag a car from so far away, at lease you can get a much more educated idea on what you have to do to your truck

Thanks . I know what you mean about the little add on's B/S. Been there got the t shirt LOL. Im going to try Autozone tomorrow if I get the chance. When I get the codes, I will post them. By the way, this is My Baby !

Thanks. It Is A Sport, the guy who owned it before me dented the front bumpper and replaced it wit crome, so I bough a after market rear and put it on. I still have the painted rear stored in case I want to change to all painted. I also still have the Running boards..just in case, But I weld as one of My WAY to many hobbies. A guy on the site had some Custom Rock sliders made and I fell in love with them. He was nice enough to draw a diagram with all the sizes and sent them to me. They are made of 3/16 x 2 in. square stock. I should start shooting sparks from my welder soon. I have all the stuff, just not the time. If you would like to see them, let me know and I will post photos of them along with plans for them, that goes for ANYONE who wants to see them. You Guy's and Ladies on this site are #1 in My book.

that would be awesome! if you do get around to fabbing some up, post up some pics, i may just pay you to make me some too haha

Well, I went to Autozone. I think he said it was a code po500. He wrote it down , but I cant find the SOAB paper. Anyway, he said it was the speed sensor. Its $82.00 with a 2 yr. warranty. I dont know where to try to clean the old one with circut cleaner or just shell out the $$. Anyone ever changed one? Looks like it might be mounted on the outside. Am I wrong about that? Any help ..PLEASE
