Hey. I have a 1996 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with 4x4 and 290,000km roughly. So recently with the winter here in Canada, I have been using my 4x4. now last year it never me problems. This year, it still works in 4x4 but at around 80 kmph IN 2WD, and low rpm, I try to give a little gas and it makes this jumpy bogging down type feeling and noise. No other gears or speeds. 80-90kmph. So I just took it easy but as of yesterday on my way home from work, when I stop at a light for a min, it will jump like 100rpm up and down about 5 seconds apart, like it an alternator problem, but that rules out because my remote start works and keeps it running. Later that night I left to go to the gym and as I am heading there, I got to pass a slow ass car, I put some gas into it(not insane, I don't drive it hard) and it did the struggle boggy feeling and then jumped up in rpm a little and down, then up and I then let off and all of a sudden my check engine light came on, I made it to the gym and back home taking it easy, but I could only accelerate slowly to not cause anymore jumpy bogging, and at each light it just showed symptoms of a bad altenator with rpm jump about 100rpm,lights never dimmed once.
