Hey whats goin on. At about 3am this morning as i was driving home on the interstate in 5th gear, i heard a grinding noise (similiar to if you tried to put the truck in gear without having the clutch all the way depressed) and i lost all forward momentum. Power wasnt getting to the wheels. I can feel and hear the tranny going into gear, clutch feels fine, its just not going. So i rip the shifter boots off to get a look. My transmission and transfer case are seperated between 1/2" and 3/4". Absolutely no bolts in it. Does anyone know off hand the bolt sizes? I believe there are 4. I'm thinking 10mm with a 1.25 or 1.5 pitch? Any help is greatly appreciated!! She's on the side of the interstate right now. Hoping that by wiggling the driveshaft and pushing the tranny/tcase back together i can get everything to mesh back together. Thanks again for the help!

Poopy!! Most of the hardware is 1.25 pitch. I don't know ff the top of my head but I would guess a 10mm shaft with a 12 mm head or a 12mm shaft with a 14 mm head. If it were me, I would go to the hardware store and get 2 of each. Install whatever 2 that fits and drive it back to the hardware store.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response!! I'm gonna get a ride to the parts store and grab a few bolts. I appreciate the hell out of it:cheers:

Ack! Hope you didn't strip the input shaft.

When you go back make sure you've got a jack that can reach the transfer case, it'll probably go back on easier if you support the weight a little. Probably be best to have some ratchet straps, too.

Well I got it home...on the back of a tow truck, for $150 :yell: I got the right size bolts, got it all bolted back up with no issue, but it still doesnt go. It appears my t-case shifter is in the N position, and its not budging. I'm guessing im gonna have to split them back apart and try to get it wherever its supposed to be, then bolt it back up. Any ideas?

And SV, you were dead on! 10mm shaft, 1.25 pitch. I went with a 35mm length and lockwasher. I'll loctite once i get it fixed right.

I did a search for removing the transfer case shifter from the top. Am I going to mess anything up by removing this? Im thinking the grinding noise i heard when they seperated was the tcase shifter jumping from 2wd to N. Sound possible? Thanks for everyones help.

Since you have it at the house, I would definitely pull the shifter from the top. If you don't see any evidence of metal shavings then I would pull the transfer case out completely and find out why it's stuck.

Turns out all I had to do was remove the t-case shifter, move the cylinders a little, and put the shifter back on. :ybrick: Everything is working perfectly again. Now to put fluid back in it, and hit the road :mullet:
