Hello Fellow 4Runner Owners:

I ran into some trouble while getting the front two windows tinted on my 2007 SR5 this past week. The installer took a razor blade to the insulation/rubber trim on the inside of the doors (where the base of the window sits inside). He cut it out completely. The inside portion of this rubber seal almost has a felt surface. It seals the bottom of the window on the inside of the door when the window is in the up position. This is the best way I know how to describe it.

Since the installer did this, you can see directly down into the door which reveals the window (when down), motor, gears, everything. I have contacted the manufacturer (of the film installed) and they are working the issue. I am going to take them to court if they do not make good and fix this problem immediatly.

My question is this....Has anyone ever seen this piece of stripping with the door panel off? I am trying to figure out if the stripping can be replaced by itself or if this part is fixed to the door. I can not tell with the door panel on. If the strip is fixed on the door, this company will be looking at replacing two door panels. I don't even want to think about what Toyota wants for those. Then again, it is not my problem for long.

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

I have replaced that trimming before but not on a 4runner, but it was a stand-alone part. It was a press fit on the car I worked on.
Hope you get this issue fixed without too many more hassels.
