Plug behind dash.....fog lights?

Just wanted to see if anyone knew what these were. Theyre behind the dash not plugged into anything right where the dimmer and e-locker wires are. Also, i have an sr5 and do not have the factory fog lights, just the little plates that cover where they go. But under the bumper, there are wires just sitting there so the wires are already ran.

Isnt the foglight switch incorporated into the headlight switch, if it came from factory with foglights

Yeah, definitely not fog lamp switch. The lamp sockets are out front and wired to an empty relay socket under the hood. From that pic I'd guess the white plug was for the Remote Side Mirror Control (10 pin plug with 7 wires) and the black was "Back Window Lock Switch" (10 pin plug with 2 wires.) Everyone of these will have unused plugs here and there for features that may not have been used or slight year-to-year changes. A picture or description of the plug and wire colors would be helpful if you really must know what they are.

Just a guess...but could it be for the rear e-locker. I know I have read several post that state these are pre-wired for the e-locker...and it's in the correct location?

Mine has the elocker and that's wired already from the factory. I bought a set of factory fogs so I was hoping it would be a quick plug and play

You can still do a plug and play...I just ordered my parts to do this. In my research, several post stated that these rigs are pre-wire for fog lights also (at least for my 2000 SR5). By the front turn signals are the connectors for the actual fog lights. Then to operate them, you need to purchase a new turn signal stalk that comes with the fog light switch on it...I think I ordered one for a 2000 Limited. I just ordered my new stalk yesterday, it cost me $58.xx. Now that's a friend price, but shouldn't be too much more to general public. Anyway, once you install the new turn light stalk, it will operate your fog light, as if ordered from the factory. You will also need to buy a relay...this is installed in the fuse box under the hood. It's marked as "Fog"...I think. And the last thing you might need is, a fuse? Sorry, I haven't gotten that far yet!

I first attempted to do this with a "stock" rocker switch...but all my searches (here, yota-tech, IH8MUD, etc..) came back saying to just buy the stalk. Go the goggle and search something like...install factory fog lights 3rd generation 4Runner. You will have a ton of post to read. But, using a rocker switch, they say you have to splice wires...I didn't want to do that.

You need two more items and you will be good to go with the "plug and play"....you'll need a new light switch stalk (cause it will have the foglight switch $90.00) and the big fuse that goes in under the hood fuse box, once you have those two things and the fog lights you have it will take about 30 min to and hour to install it all, and then you're good to go.....have fun....good luck.

The black box is for the "toyota security" blinking light, and the white box is for the dash lights dimmer switch. Just had mine apart putting in some LED's. Looks exactly like my connectors on a 2000 4runner SR5.

I did this same thing awhile back. Bought the stalk online for 60 bucks and the fuse from Toyota because I couldn't find it anywhere else for 35. Install was straight forward and simple, fuse goes in the box under the hood and replace the existing stalk with the new one and you're good to go.

Yeah the dimmer switch is already connected so I don't think that's it. Also not sure I feel comfortable enough opening up the steering column and replacing the stalk. I was thinking about just buying a factory fog switch and going that route.

I'll also be putting an hid kit into these. This is starting to sound like a lot more work than I anticipated.

The factory foglight switch is on the column stalk, so buying a factory fog light switch would require you to do that anyways.

Its SUPER easy to do. Just follow these steps:

1. Turn the wheel 90 degrees to the left. Unscrew the exposed screw in the surround behind the steering wheel.

2. Turn the wheel 180 degrees to the right, and remove the other exposed screw in the surround behind the steering wheel.

3. Remove the screw on the bottom of the surround (so 3 total screws)

4. The upper and lower covers will now pop off the column surround, exposing the column switch.

5. Unplug the left side of the column switch (aka the Headlight switch)

6. Unscrew two small screws that hold it perpendicularly to the column.

7. Remove the headlight switch assembly.

8. Install the new column switch (with fog light style). Install is the reverse of the above 7 steps.

VIOLA! Super easy, and you won't have to mess with adding or removing wires. The column switch (with fogs) is completely bolt in.

Also, those plugs go to various options that your 4Runner either doesn't have (ie Clutch start cancel), or wasn't available in the US. Toyota created generic harnesses rather than individual harnesses for every single different market (ie Canada). Other parts of the world got cool options we never did

i've got the stock wiring for fog lights aswell, everything except the relay that turns things on and off, that relay is around 75$ !!!! so i just used a radio shack relay and hooked it up to the running lights.... works fine for me! but mine are 3k 35watt HID's (VERY yellow fog lights).

Hey, what kind of HID's do you have in your fog lights? I mean...you have original fog lights correct. Did you just buy a set of HID's...poof...they fit. Or is there a certain type that fit our fogs?

I would like to run a set of HID's in my fog lights...it just doesn't look like they would fit. Any help would be appreciated...pictures or advise! Thanks...

actually no nothing from the OEM mounts, lights, or wires was used.... i tried but when Toyota wanted ~80$ for a relay i decided to strike out on my own. I bought a set of fog lights from Auto zone (the least ****est i could find there) that had replaceable bulbs, figured out the bulb type, and bought a set of HID's from DDM tuning.

The mounts where more complicated, bought some leghtweight painted steel stock (already painted and sealed) measured and bent and cut and to the lenths / shapes needed and wallah, took several hours to bend them to the right shapes and stuff, trial and error ya know, the lights i got aren't very good, there's much better out there, but mine are just for fog and they do that fairly well. by the way the mount is FUGLY, but it's hidden behind the bumper so no big deal....

Wow...$80...for a relay!! That's highway robbery! It might be to late...but if you want, I'll be happy to buy a relay for the fog lights and send it to you. I paid $12 for my relay...and though that was crazy money...bought it at my local Toyota dealership. Also, I can get your turn signal/headlight stalk for you while I'm at it...think I paid $58-60...let me know.

Thanks for clarifying everything about the HID's for me. Had me excited for a minute!

well your dealer sounds allot more reasonable than mine! appreciate the offer but i'm ditching these fog lights when i put the new bumper on :cheers:
