Weight is the main issue of steel wheels. For a 5th gen 4R, aluminum seems way more logical. Steel wheels really only make sense if you are pure rock crawling or just trying to save a buck. The stock wheels are better than a steel wheel...I am thinking of running Steel wheels on my TRD Off Road. After I install my lift, I am looking at K02 tires in 285/75r17. I like the black steel wheels. Not sure of offset etc. But, What are the pluses, minuses of my idea?
Lets be honest, people run steelies to get "the look". Other than that there is no real reason to run them.
Sorry bringing up an old thread, but I can't make a new one yet.
I am looking to put on a set. 17x8 -12mm offset does this seem about right? Going to run a 285/70.

Steel wheels will give you a marginally better ride quality all things being equal and tend to be pretty damn tough.
They are also HEAVY--you will feel the extra unsprung weight, and they tend to rust.
I have run alloys and steel and have gone back to the OEM TE alloy revolvers.

OEM FJ Steelies are 29lb per. Within .75lb of the trd pro wheels.
Run 285’s and have zero issues.
Have two sets, both OEM and paid right at $300 per set from a dealer. Powder coated a set Toyota grey.
To the one dude here - I love the look. Been running steel wheels for years.
