I was just going to post this but you beat me to it! It's interesting they show the cars being broken into but not being stolen. That's why I wouldn't buy a new car that didn't have a key for the steering lock but I always use a red Club anyway just because it's visible from outside and it might serve as a visual deterrent to keep someone from breaking in to try anything in the first place.

In short a code unlocks the door of a car/suv. It is somehow encrypted right?

Well if China/Iran can break into the Military's servers and steal weapons system designs I'm pretty sure some college age kids can figure out Honda's encrypted codes. This shit is not that hard people. In the end it all boils down to 0 and 1' am I correct? They just came up with a program to make it go really fast:typing:. I'm guessing there was a test car involved that read Honda's codes being thrown out. Time will tell.

fords ECU is located on the driver side by the parking brake, toyotas (acuras, hondas i believe) are located near the kick panel or on the passenger side of the vehicle. by the HVAC unit. Is it possible that they were flashing the ECU that gives them the program feature to set a new code for the lock/ unlock remotes?

but to be less conspicuous they are by the passenger side doors. not near the fender.

The technology has been around for a while. As Blue said, it's just 1s and 0s. Also a good reason I don't like remote garage openers.

Yes and no... Locks do prevent a lot of theft and damage from the punks. In my experience, you don't have to be the hardest target. Just don't be the easiest and the odds are in your favor that your property will be left alone 99.9% of the time. But, if someone wants something bad enough they will do everything they can to get it.

The club is a joke......I use to work for a dealership thatg had a body shop I replaced a lot of steering wheels and steering columes on cars that had been stolen. Takes less than 30 seconds to cut threw a steering wheel. Gone in 60 seconds not just a movie. That includes cars with the club on them. Best thing to do with the club is if someone trys to steel your. Car is beat them with it...

What part of visual deterrent don't you understand? Hopefully anybody looking to steal a car won't have a bolt cutter with them big enough to cut it off and move on to the next vehicle.

sry my point was a car with the club was more likely to be broken in to or stolen. Because it was most likely not to have any other type of alarm or theft deterent on it.people would buy the club because they where cheap compared to an alarm. Thinking their car was safer when they where not.

The best visual deterrant I know of is get a red led light from radio shack. mount it in your dash so it can be seen from outside the car. Looks like an alarm is on the car.

Ahhhhh your logic is entirely against the concept of being a hard target. You might as well say insurgents will attack the base with the strongest barrier because there is probably not much protection once you get past the outer wall. It is bogus logic .

The hard target method works. Sure someone can cut through a steering wheel but anyone that determined would look for a more valuable target than a measly relatively low value 4Runner. A lot of cars are jacked by street punks and joy riders and the club works just fine to deter them.

I have a truck club, a factory alarm, and a kill switch. The dog and gun don't hurt either.

I was refering to the club as a joke. Big differanc from a punk to trained insuregens. And yes some of the cars I was repairing where high end cars with alarms.I allso have seen police chasing stolen cars and the alarm was going off lights flashing. So it doesn't matter what you do if they want to steal it they will find a way. (FYI...this was a ford dealeship I was working in. It was a mile from the white house in D.C.) yes I did see this first hand.

There's already a blinking alarm light on the dash. Isn't that one big enough?
