Who the hheell buys a 4x4 suv and complains about bad milage? Really? If ultimate mpg is your thing then go buy a TDI VW.
Poor mileage on 4G, would you participate in a suit?

I dunno, something is amiss here with this man's fuel mileage, one size up on tires or not.
My V8 has been getting 19-ish over the course of this winter. I mean, hell, my Ford Ranger with 182,xxx miles gets 14-16 *while towing*!
Something is not right, IMO but it's not lawsuit-worthy...again, IMO.

He's probably got a heavy foot, or something slightly off in his motor. It's nothing to get worked up over... different people get different mileage. News at 11.

I get that dude, I'm a firefighter so I get paid from tax revenue as well, but theres no reason to brag about it in a Toyota forum is my point.

Your v8 gets better MPGs than my v6! I know something ain't right, the truck is well taken care of!
I also personally know 2 others who own a 4th Gen V6:
1. John bought it brand new and admits the MPGs aren't what they used to be
2. Phil, a mechanic I know, (yes you read that right) bought his used a few months ago, doesn't know any better swears there's nothing wrong with his truck even though his range comp shows 220 miles to empty at 3/4 tank of gas !
Bergs, I thank you and others like you for a sincere reply & not a hate filled diatribe bashing myself and others like myself for not buying a bicycle.
I've loved 4runners since forever and would only like to get back the 420+ range it used to get during the first 3 years of ownership. My driving habits are curbed (light foot), I cruise to a stop and have no extra weight in the vehicle.
This topic was merely a feeler & in this litigious age that we live in is it surprising that one would bring up a topic such as this? If you buy something based on its claim and it doesn't live up to it, wouldn't you be at the very least disturbed?

This was my first thought. The EPA also changed the calculation to more real world numbers. Go to fueleconomy.gov and look at the new numbers and see how that compares to what you get, it is spot on for me average. If I take a road trip I get better then advertised.
To the OP....What you're looking for is a Class-Action suit. Which you'll NEVER win. Just from this sample group MOST are getting near or very close to near what is the published mpg for this vehicle. If you can find THOUSANDS of people then you MIGHT have a legitimate suit. During the summer I'm actually getting a little higher then the published mpg.
The EPA numbers are ESTIMATES. And should only be used in comparison. NOT as a hard fast number that ALL vehicles will meet. There are just too many environmental factors that influence gas mileage. The biggest factor is how you drive. Do you do jack-rabbit starts???? Drive over the speed limit??? Do a lot of city driving??? All those are just SOME of the factors that will influence gas mileage. Even living near an Ocean can have an adverse effect on gas mileage.

I can't see this lawsuit going anywhere regarding the MPGs on an SUV where a hybrid might be a more plausible case but the biggest issues with trying to start a suit would be finding a substantial number of STOCK (modded in any way would be thrown out) 4th gen owners willing to participate (time money and energy has to be worth it) and with SUVs in general and MPGs there will be too many variable to consider causing many different MPG changes and the documentation would simply have to be spot on and I can't see that being consistent with as many 4th gen owners you'd need for this suit.
With my 13 year old 3rd gen I get 17 in the city with my bit of a leadfoot in the summer but with winter gas and using 4wd time to time causes my mileage to take a dip down to 14-15 city.
My suggestion in seriousness if $$ is a concern then drop the suit,sell the 4Runner and buy something to match your expectations for MPGs.

Also. The EPA changed how they determine MPG a few years ago, due to the fact that their estimates were way OFF on all cars. They used a pretty static, in a vacuum method before which was never reachable. It assumed you drove with the car with everything off or at some perfect acceleration curve.
Newer (past 2 or 3 years) model cars will probably have a "more" accurate MPG estimate as the EPA, in conjunction with auto makers, has revised how it determines it.
Finally. The single greatest impact on MPG is YOU. If you are getting crappy MPG, slow down a bit and watch it jump.

No one hates you here or the fact that you even posted this. The problem is that you keep asking the same question ad nauseum with no solutions or answers, even at times you've told people they were wrong for giving you advice. And now you wanna sue Toyota over this. I think our mileage is spot on for the type of vehicle you drive, as do many other members.

I think his mpg is unreasonable low. If that's the case and you want another 4runner trade it in and get another one without problems. Time is money and money is time.
Lemme get this right. You got over 400 miles/tank for 3 years, and you wanna sue Toyota now since your mileage has gone down??? Good luck finding a lawyer to take your case.
For the record, I'm very happy with the mileage I get in my V-8

If you don't know the answers to those questions then all you're doing is making a guess. I can get two exactly identical vehicles...but one gets much better gas mileage then the other...switch drivers...and the gas mileage for the vehicles switch with the driver.
OP - needs to as answer the basic questions I asked earlier.
