poor radio reception

Hey all

My '95 T4R gets pathetic am/fm reception---even in places where it should be crystal clear. I bought the truck used several months ago and it had an after-market stereo installed (Pioneer Super Tuner iii D, for what it's worth).

I disassembled the dash and took a peek at the wiring keeping an eye out for a signal amp that, after scouring this forum, I believe should be there. I'm not 100% sure it's there, but what I did find is a black cable with a standard 3.5 mm jack hanging loose. I followed the cable up through the upper part of the passenger side dash and it could be coming from the antenna.

If this cable is in fact the problem, I'm not sure where to go because there is nothing to plug it into. Any ideas?

For the record, I do get some reception, but it is very spotty and works properly maybe 5% of the time.

Its suppose to go into your radio. Should be a plug in the back of cd player for it.

I just bought a 95 also and had the same problem. I have the stock stereo though. I realized it had an aftermarket antenna that was jacked up. While attempting to replace it I found the path of the second wire. The Jack is smaller than the regular antenna and goes up the passenrside A puller then cuts back to the left under the headliner. That was as far as I was going to dismantle. The original antenna was a power one and my new one was not so I removed the power motor and ran the new line through the firewall where the old one went.( not an easy job. Had to unbolted the ecu to find where it came through and unbolted the fender and cut a hole in the fender frame bracket to fit the length. Of the new antenna. Also had to widen the hole in the fender itself.) However after all this it did make my reception 100% better. Since I do have the stock radio I pluged the smaller cable back in but it mad no difference.
