Port not releasing Tundras or 4Runners?

So I was due to pick up a 2017 4runner TRD Pro tomorrow morning in Atlanta and the dealer calls me and says the port is "Locked Down" due to a quality concern and they will not be releasing any 4runner or Tundras. Does anyone have any info on this?

This perked my ears also because I am a Quality Engineer.

I thought the South East distribution came out of the Jacksonville port ?

Surely, they had to give you the reason. They usually do!

Nope hence the reason for reaching out to the forums. They might have said it could have nothing to do with the vehicles but the ports inventory system. They said they were unsure but now my delivery is 2 weeks late.

So I was intrested to see if anyone had an in and knew what the real scoop was to stay my curiosity. Google seaches revieled nothing useful.

Ps: I am new to the forums if anyone knows how to change the thread title I can remove the "Miami"?

Only a MOD can change that.

I would call your salesperson / dealer and ask what the "Lock Down" actually refers to....
 
I was at my local dealer yesterday, and the guys there casually pointed to a row of about 8 Tundras that were off on their own. They said they were "sale locked" - they can't sell them until some quality concern was addressed. If they document a deal on any of the impacted VINs, they'd be in deep doo with Toyota. So apparently this isn't limited to vehicles at the ports.

They didn't have much info, but were under the impression that it was related to some relatively minor thing. Bummer if they're paying floor plan financing charges for a bunch of unsellable vehicles.

Awsome so first off I'm not crazy, well I may be crazy but at least I have validation that this is happening. I am heading over to the dealer in person tomorrow morning to talk to them face to face I will report what I find out.

I did read something about if there was a quality problem with the vehicles themselves they would ship them and the issue recalls if needed. So it makes me think this issue is administrative in nature and the vehicals quality is as expected.
 
These things happen somewhat often. I used to be a tech at a Hyundai dealership and you'd get a batch of cars that had some silly little thing wrong like one of these was a hose clamp that needed to be rotated but those cars were under a stop sale till it was done.

"Port Lockdown" seems a whole lot more palatable to a new owner than "QC issue", doesn't it?

Kinda mentally misdirects the "problem" to THE PORT, rather than "YOUR NEW CAR". I never stopped being amazed at the creativeness of Dealer-speak.

Do you have a VIN#? It will be interesting to see if you get the truth.

To be clear, we may be talking about two different things. I was talking about a gaggle of Tundras at my local dealer that are reportedly "sale-locked" because of some quality problem. There's no indication of anything port-related. But the sales manager told me they can't be sold until the problem (whatever it is) gets fixed on each vehicle.

I had no interest in Tundras, and these vehicles were clearly segregated in a remote part of the lot, not easily accessed by window shoppers. So I have no reason to be suspiscious of what they told me.

I would think it's a heck of a lot cheaper, safer, and better for damage control to put a bunch of trucks on a ship and sail them to Jacksonville then to load them up on semi trucks and drive them to the east coast.

To the OP, hope this gets resolved soon so you can get your 4runner, you won't be disappointed.
