You have to be careful around the Mt Hood NF now because of their new motor vehicle use policy. They now have vehicle maps circulating around. LaDee flats is the new OHV area being built up near squaw mountain above estacada. Can't wait for that to be done.

Sounds like allot of experience there! i hope to get out with you guys soon!!! the only place i'm (mildly) familiar with on your list is Lolo pass.... that's a beautiful run in the fall!

I am usually down to try new places and really enjoy snow wheeling with a group as long as its not a huge group. A friend and I ran into a group of about 40 toyota's up on LoLo pass this year and boy wa that a cluster. I had some drunk moron slide his crawler into my then stock truck and start going off about how i shouldnt of had mine up there. I was parked off the side of the road when he hit me and I was doing just fine until they showed up.
I am insterested in this place in Estacada.... Must go find!!!

I'm supposed to head to browns by the end of the month with a couple of my buddies on a shake down run for there rigs (fully linked truggied second gen, yj conversion on sami) if any one wants to meet up and cruise the power lines and some other simpler trails let me know.

i keep looking for your rig when i drive down thurston but i dont ever see it... you still work up here?
I am actually working in Longview Washington at a paper mill. I wont be back in my Vancouver office until June or so. I have been starting to see more "built" 4runners on my commute since it like trippled!! I really wish my rig got some better milage.... 17MPG is not so great when commuting 102miles a day. Lucky I get reimbursed and actually end up with a bit extra in my pocket.

just so you both know, lolo pass is technically closed during the "winter" months/season, too many idiots going up there like [MENTION=89494]donefore[/MENTION] posted about, anyhow yeah them and then other people who would see the road on their GPS and think it will connect them with hood river an i84... while yes it will in the summer, once you start getting snow, you wont make it unless you have a very capable rig and even then... basically there were too many rescues happening up there in that area from both people who should have known better to people who should of never left the city limits.
so yeah its off limits to wheeling or driving in the winter, and if your caught up there, be prepared to lose your rig. same thing with the yacolt burn area in wa. [MENTION=67129]92-SR5[/MENTION] might have more info on the lolo pass closure as he works more closely with clackamas co sheriffs office the south side of the river jurisdiction, but that was the last i head about lolo pass, and that was like about a month ago.
That's good info! I can totally see how people could get on that road that should not be. I have even seen a few Minivans trying to go up the road while it had several feet of snow and more steadily coming down. I try to get those people to turn around.... some do some don't. I like to think that's natural selection.
The problem I have with this is that you say it is technically closed and that my rig could be impounded. That's total crap. I understand that it is a public safety issue for people to be going up there in severe weather but if they want to be able to have that jurisdiction then they need to have signage that says road closed during (month X - month X). There is zero signage up there and nothing even hinting that people are not allowed in there.
I would think a simple sign (~$1000) would help save good folks from getting stranded and keep our SAR friends where we really need them!
I guess that's just how some of our regulation agencies like to operate. Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything I just hate seeing stuff shut down by idiots. And it appears that it is happening yearly in this wonderful state of ours.

yeah if their is no notice of closure, they cannot seize your shit, well i suppose they coul, but then they'd have to pay you ALLOT of money for no notification... me and my lawyer talk allot about this kind of stuff because i'm a motorcyclist and it's allot of fun to piss off the sheriff's office when they do illegal shit, like the "all bikers mus stop for inspection" lol, F*** you cornholes! they California Highway Patrol had to pay around a million dollars out in class action settlements for that lil stunt!

Lol, no set date yet I just know its sometime by the end of the month. And I deff won't be doing any hardcore trails I'm still completely stock besides 265/75 duratracs

well the bad new is they can... they have gates closed, and there are signs up(but people like to rip them down or shoot them up...) and unfortunately they do not have the resources to keep posting them up every time some idiot tears it down ect...

a buddy of mine got into a world of shit when a USFS caught him down a road that 'had' a gate on it, then they found an acetylene torch in his rig that was still warm... anyway with the right evidence and circumstance their is enough stuff to get busted, especially if you're guilty.
but their are also plenty of examples of cops going over the edge, and setting you up for trouble. Like a sign being shot / torn down, if it isn't posted and clearly visible, any judge, besides the clowns of a municiple court, would throw it out on the spot, unless it's not your first offense....
besides all that, i like lolo pass, does anybody know when it's 'officially' open?

I think Lolo is officially open when the snow melts, not an exact date. Lolo pass is "closed" but if you take the road that drops off to the right (I can't recall the name) it is technically "open." It is a road that is pretty windy and eventually hooks back up to Lolo pass miles down the road.
As far as goat mountain and that area goes, STAY ON THE ROADS! CCSO has hidden trail cameras and all that crap up there. You might not get busted up there but you might have cops knocking on your door later. It's really sad that it is coming to this.
