I haven't ran into them using anything except gravel and sand in the willamette valley

No salt, just de-icer. I think it is citrus based for the most part. :noidea: It doesn't rot your vehicle though, just sticks to your wheels a bit. All the rust on my runner I caused myself. haha

We very rarely get enough snow to have need for de-icer. The undercarriage of my 97 looks almost new. No rust.
I think you would have bigger issues if you chose to drive on the beach or lived on the coast.

In the winter months, I see de-icer on the roads all the time, even if it isn't remotely close to snowing.... They lay that stuff down if it is going to be in the low 30s, whether there is snow in the forecast or not... That being said, with all of the cars I have owned here, I haven't really had salt/mag-chloride rust issues with any of the vehicles I have owned.

Toyota frames come pre-rusted from the factory, however they won't get much worse driving around Portland during the winter months.

Oregon is an open carry state. CCP/CHL/CWP ect. is also a available and is a "shall issue" basis as well. with that being said some places like Portland have tried banning open carry, but as long as you have your CHL you are good. most cops up here are cool about it, although just as with any place there are some jerks who think they should be the only ones... You can own suppressors(with the tax stamp), full auto(with the proper documents and permits), and yeah, not much is illegal here. -no night time hunting, no mounted weapons, no battery powered optics for hunting, but other than that you are good. No magazine restrictions, no round type restrictions(no surplus ammo for hunting and no full auto, 10rds max for hunting). Oregon offers no reciprocity with any other state on CHL btw, so you will need to take the class and apply.

about the salt thing, yeah we use a synthetic salt compound on the roads. but its only a few times a year, and typically only in city limits and around bigger cities. as long as you wash your cars regularly afterwards your gonna be fine. I have zero rust issues on all of my vehicles and trailer. in fact I don't know of anyone up here who has rust issues from the pnw and "salt". it all is from back east or the beach if its hear. another thing you can do if you are concerned is paint your framework, axles and underbody. I do this every year with epoxy paint. it holds up very well and is very resistant to chemicals.

Don't know if Texas is the same way - but ammo is in short supply up here. All the fun has been taken out of plinking when every pull of the trigger your brain says "thirty-cents, thirty-cents, thirty-cents".

The CHL application is a easy enough, but you will have to have taken a basic handgun safety course. At least in Marion County.

Oregon CHL is an easy process, at least in Clackamas county. I need to take my Utah class. Problem is finding time.

Sand Lake June 22nd

I'm looking at heading over to Sand Lake for part of the day with a friend of two. I'm planning on going via HWY 18. I am picking up a friend in Lincoln City around mid-day possibly, so we won't be out there until early afternoon at the earliest. Plan is to spend the better part of the afternoon there driving around and exploring, and then drive home when it starts to get late. A couple people that are possibly going have never been on sand before, so I'll be walking them through that a little in the beginning.

Experience Level: All experience levels welcome
Vehicle Requirements: Functioning vehicle, front and rear recovery points, shovel, CB or other radio communication (cell coverage is spotty at best), red or orange flag displayed 9 feet above the ground, fire extinguisher, OHV Permit (The last 3 are necessary in order to be legal on the dunes).

CB: Channel 10, unless otherwise noted

I'm planning on leaving town by 11:00; 12:30 pick up friend in Lincoln City; Arrive at dunes 1:20ish
