havent heard yet but he just finished installing and sent me pics of his new cold air system on his 3rd gen so i imagine he'll be heading in the house soon to confront his master. lol, dont tell him i said that. Hope to hear soon.

update: still no update, lol, havent heard back from my friend yet. If you guys do meet up at the fred meyer, im only like 5 min away from there. Hopefully you guys will check back here before then. if not i see your number nate and ill hit you up tomorrow if i dont hear back tonight.

Also everybody fyi, ive had sprint, nextel, and verizon up there and all of them lose signal once you get up there. cant speak for other carriers but those for sure are unreliable once you get out there.

Heard back, permission denied lol. Well i dont think the corolla im in at the moment would make it much past the campground. Look fwd to some pics or jeep rescue stories. Ill deff be there with the runner on the 15 th though.

Man those videos have got me super stoked for the trip in two weeks!!!! I haven't been to that part of Brown's before...granted my rig probably isn't ready to handle that terrain yet either...Great stuff guys!

You only missed the short notice day trip, we're still on for the 15th. Hopefully the videos will get more people pumped up and wanting to go. As far as what to bring... I didn't need my shovel, straps or anything for that matter, but come as prepared as you want to be.
Sliders would be advised for Firebreak just because of the bigger rocks, I don't think i actually made contact with any, but I am lifted so that helps.

There are lots of easy and moderate trails that can be done without too much modification, so if you aren't comfortable with something you can ride along with me and my blessed E-Locker :driving:

nope you didn't miss a thing, this was just a pre-run to scout out some camp sights and see what the conditions are like and get a better feel for the trails ect. fire break five is a "black diamond"(the ranking is similar to that of a ski resort, green circle is easiest, blue square is intermediate, black diamond is hard, double black is harder, and triple black is hardest). both of the runners that went out yesterday had sliders(and if you want to run a "black" and want to make sure your rig comes home with no damage then i suggest sliders. lockers are not necessary but would help. and a winch is not necessary, as i have one and will be going out, and i think at least one other truck will have one as well. you will need at least 31"tires (265 70 16) and preferably a mud terrain but Nates_NW4Runner has BFG ATs and mad it just fine(he also has a locker). if you have straps bring them, but i wouldn't say you have to go out and buy $100 or more in recovery gear(but it is always a good idea to have at least one or two straps and D-rings/shackles in your rig anyways so...). one thing that A10MileHusker commented on was that the trails are a lot narrower than what he was used to in CO. to me they arent that narrow(but ive been used to it for some time now and have run the Rubicon, which has even narrower parts to it) so just make sure you watch you mirrors and keep an eye on your back fenders as you round some corners. i will post up some of the pics i took yesterday later on this after noon. we ran into some other guys in Toyota's out there whom we invited to tag along on the 15, they are from Newbergg area and have older pickups mainly 2nd and 3rd gen trucks but nice guys. you guys will be amazed at what your rigs can do, the more you get out and do this stuff the more confidant you will become in tackling this stuff same goes with working on your rig... i remember when i was intimidated by a simple brake job, now Ive done full motor swaps ect. the more you do it the more you learn. I am sure that we all want to keep body damage down to a minimum (i know my runner is a DD, and family rig so it needs to stay nice for a little while still) if you are supper concerned about "pin stripes" from tree branches or small little scratches then maybe firebreak five isn't for you but there are plenty of other trails out there. make sure you guys have the off road permits(you can pick them up at most 4wd shops(AccessoryOutfitters :: in Aloha, Truck Parts & Truck Accessories in Portland, OR 97266-RH2 in Portland, MotoSport Hillsboro - Honda Suzuki Kawasaki KTM & Used Motorcycles - Beaverton Portland Oregon in Hillsboro all can hook you up with one for like $12 or 15, and they are good for two years) also for those who are interested on the 14, the day before(saturday) there will be a clean up out at browns, a lot of trash gets dumped out there by stupid lazy people who just don't care or don't think. if we want to keep our trails open the more we can help and clean up our trails the better for us to have them available in the future. also one more thing, i know its probably common sense and i shouldn't have to say it but stay on the trail, the sheriff patrols the logging roads and trails out there and you will get ticketed faster and more severely for going off the trails than not having a permit, with that being said they are all nice guys and if you ask them they will give you a map of the area(highly recommended). and last but not least watch out for guys on dirt bikes and quads, they think they own the trails and drive like Ken Block every where. most of them are nice but some of them just don't care and don't have any respect.

but now that i hate visiting cause you have to wait for some one else to pump your gas. such a waste of time and lazy. but its the law. ha

yeah but that $12-15 for a permit goes back into the up-keep and well being of our trails, its why we here in Oregon continue to have nice OHV areas and camp sights. the trails are maintained and roads graded and repaired if washouts happen or trees fall ect. it also goes to help pay the salaries of the 3 sheriffs deputy's and their equipment who patrol out there. so im all for it.

For anyone interested, how does the next weekend work? I know it's probably not a good idea to run two weekends in a row given some might need to do some maintenance before taking it back out, but I just thought I'd ask. Also, I'm still having trouble diagnosing this weird squeeling noise coming from under the truck when accelerating. It happens throughout my drives from start up to operating temp and seems to get louder. If any of you guys have an idea and are willing to help let me know! Maybe go for a test drive so you can hear what i'm hearing as well! Anyhow, looking forward to meeting you guys soon.

i have looked over my map of the area and have come up with 5-7 trails that we can run depending on skill and experience level. they will offer a wide variety of terrain and fun. something for everyone i think. they start off from easiest and get progressively harder at the towards the end of the day/run. if some of you guys dont feel up to a particular part of the trail there are generally by passes you can take and or just pull off the trail and wait till everyone has gone by and then you can go back to logging road and come up to the top of the trail. or you can just watch the rest make the run and get pressured by your peers into actually giving it a shot and if you cant make it one of us can safely winch you rig out and you will have bragging rights that you went places jeeps turned around at(yes a decent jeep with 33s tuned around and went home on the hill that criera posted video of).

idk that might be a bit too soon as you stated, not that i think anyone is at risk for braking anything, but with the cost of fuel, that could get costly fast, i know for me i wouldn't be able to make it(the wife wouldn't let me go). then June is shot for me -baby due right in the mid, so i personally probably wouldn't be free to go out again till after the the 4th of July holiday... but just cause i cant go, doesn't mean you guys cant!

hey 99yota4, is your truck still making that funny noise under acceleration? if so bring it up tomorrow if you can(i live in vancouver, ill pm you my address and number) and i will help you take a look/see at whats not right. im not working right now so im free most of the time, but my fiance has tomorrow off and doesnt have class either so she will be home and can watch our so so i can focus on truck stuff.

they really arent that bad man, ive seen guys with stock toyotas make it up. but you are more than welcome to watch, take pics and cheer... there are logging roads that interconnect everything out there so if you dont want to run something then you can opt out for that section and meet us at the next opening... -or maybe you can hitch a ride up a section or two with someone who is gonna run the black just to feel what its like...
