Possible problem with A-Trac in my '01

I have an '01 SR5, 4 wheel drive. I think this is the first year Toyota started using A-Trac in the 4runners. Anyways I feel the system is robbing me of power when I need it, like when I'm stuck in mud. It's trying to switch power between wheels but what I really need is a lot of wheel spin to get me out. Does anyone else experience this problem with A-Trac? Any fix?

Lock the center differential to disable the systems that limit wheel spin.

search for the bagel mod too. its an on the fly VSC disable/enable switch.
