Post-LBJ Replacement

Hey all,

So I finally got to replacing my LBJs after 370XXX KMs. The rust up here didn't help, and those cotter pins were a PITA, but I got it done.

Afterwards, I noticed there was a very small *clunk*, but very sporadically. It started off every minute, now I'm hearing it less and less. Also weird, is when I started driving it this morning, the sound appeared a couple times, and the ABS light came, and then promptly went off after a couple minutes.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm going to get under it again this Sunday to re-torque the OTR castle nut, since the studs were spinning and it might of not been as close to 60 ft lbs as I think. I also think maybe while I was manipulating the wheel hub the brake shield or something else might have not returned properly.

I've attached a rather awful quality picture. As an aside, I feel like the OTR nuts are not loose since there is not many threads left for the cotter pin.

Any advice is appreciated!

Did you remove the ABS sensor at any point in the process? There might be rust particles on the magnets and causing a bad reading. The magnets must be clean in order to read the ABS rings correctly.

Clunk could be anything... but did you use an accurate torque wrench during the process? You don't want any of those bolts being too loose/too tight.

I'm wondering if all the tapping caused some of that rust dust to get onto the ABS sensor. I didn't pull it, and frankly I don't think I can because last time I removed the ABS bolt that sensor was absolutely seared into the assembly.

The torque wrench is probably off by a bit. The castle nut and bolts on the LBJ are definitely torqued either to spec or close to spec. It's the OTR castle nut that I'm wondering about. The studs were spinning so I had to put a jack under it to tighten the nut.
