[MENTION=140522]taco7[/MENTION] do you have the small 3/8" tab welded on to the side of your bumper already? If so it should be fairly easy to mount a PL259 or NMO mount. If not, putting it up near the jerry cans should be the highest point for you on the bumper. I'd recommend buying a 90 degree mount or fab your own.
I previously had a Diamond K400 lip mount that was mounted on my hatch which kept it a good height above the roof line. Unfortunately I keep my hatch open a lot at camp, so every time I was cooking etc. it'd be pointed at the ground. I also keep APRS running full time at camp if I need to. Last weekend I moved the hitch mount to my jerry can holder, where it will still be in a good position when open.
Diamond K400 NMO mounted on outside of jerry can holder. I keep a NMO rain cap on it when driving around town.
With Diamond NR770HBNMO mounted. It's about 40" tall. Note that just barely half of the antenna is over the centerline of the roof. Ideally you want 50% or more of the antenna above the centerline. Also needs to be 16-18" away from metal (it's not in this case). I run this antenna if I think I'll be near low branches, as the antenna with my RTT is less than 1/4 above the roofline:
If I'm not near trees/branches and need better range, I switch out to a Comet SBB7 (about 1.5ft higher than the NR770HBNO).
