I would go passenger side for the same reasons you mentioned. I often have a north face duffel on top of my fridge compartment which completely blocks that window and I still see out the passenger rear door just fine for switching lanes for what it's worth.
That's a dope little pull out table, where did you scoop that?

Its an aluminum folding table off a surplus medical chest. They are very heavy duty and come in sets of 2 for <$100 from Sportsman's Guide. The tables aren't too heavy, that chest has some crazy weight to it for being aluminum! I just ground the rivets off the 6 toggles on the table, no other mods necessary other than I'm going to strip it and repaint it or leave the top raw aluminum.

I like how you did this. But in the pic I can't tell; do you just remove the forward section when you use the rear seats? I want to hinge one to fold back but don't know if that will work.

Yes, the forward "half" of the sleep platform gets removed and the seat bottoms go back in for "daily driver" mode. Its really easy to swap in and out, but lately, Ive just been leaving the platform in.

The hinge method could work depending on how you design it. On my specific build it wouldnt work since the front half is 36" and the headroom is only 28". I did help a friend build his and he wanted a similar idea. We ended up making the sleep platform pop in between the drawers and the seat bottoms (he wanted to leave his in). Ill get some pictures of his setup.

[MENTION=15690]jerad[/MENTION] your storage system is exactly what I've been wanting to do, down to the water/gas can. Love how you cover up the sides/wheel wells but still make them accessible. I have a dog, and the systems that don't close in that space just wouldn't work. I don't want her falling in that hole. Do you have schematics/drawings/sizings of your system you could share?

Likely the cheapest and fastest built "drawer" system in this thread. Works well for me and made it in about an hour. I envy all the setups in this thread but for quick and dirty to get the job done this was it for me.

Nothing at all wrong with that. The only reason mine is so nice is because I enjoy wood working and find it relaxing.

Only thing I recommend is getting it secured down. Use some tie downs and turnbuckles to the factory tie down locations. Then strap your wood and cooler down too. Would suck to get in a major accident and die because a bundle of firewood crushed your head...

When I put the grill etc in the drawer, the contents from my normal setup go nicely in the nook to the right.

Just off the top of my head it was something like this:

1/2 plywood for top and bottom of frame and drawer bottoms

1x8 for the sides of the frame

1x6 for sides/front of drawers (I did have to cut down the left drawer sides and front to fit the table underneath

1x2 to attach slide for table

3 24" soft close full extension slides (from
Amazon $20 each)

Table is 1" thick wood. It is made for crafts and comes in like a 20x36" sheet

Diamond plate rubber mat from Amazon (Comes in 4x8 sheet. Used for top and inside the drawers)

Overall Dimensions were roughly 35"x41.5"

Drawers are 25"x18.5"

Table is 25x16.5

I have had some people ask about my setup since it was cheap and basic. It does NOT compete with anything I have seen on this thread, but it does exactly what I need it to do for now. Only thing left to do is finish the sleeping platform part of it...

Requirements:

1. Store Cargo Cover
2. Store Compressor
3. Store tools
4. Tie Down Points for Securing cargo above
5. Be accessible without moving too much cargo
6. Allow for maximum versatility above box
7. Secured to standard tie downs
8. Not move around
9. Make NO noise (I drive too much)
10. Create an easy to setup sleeping platform that is flat
11. Not be too bulky or too expensive

Surprisingly, it is fantastic!!! - especially since the rear 1/3 is separate from the 2 front compartments. Most things that get put into the cargo area go over the front 2 compartments, and the rear is still fully accessible. I put carabiners on para cord to hand from the headrests of the back seat. These both hold light stuff and allow me to hold the compartments open when need be. This setup fulfills all of the above requirements and more. My wife loves it too.

yes and no. We carry our dog back here. So, we don't put much else on top of it. She unloads upon voice commands.

Mine is really simple. I sketched it up and my father in law knocked it out in an afternoon. Two short drawers and a full width compartment. The flashlight bracket is also the charger, so I can plug it in the 12v.
