Potential Headlight Defect

Took my TE for the 20,000 mile service , they replaced my headlights and did a tire alignment ( 2nd one under warranty) since I got new Falken Wild Peaks.

Will see how long this new headlights stay clear.

Is wheel alignment covered by warranty?
I suspect "2nd one" referred to the headlight replacement. Alignment is not covered under warranty.

Last July 2010 at my 12 month service I pointed out the foggy top of the headlight lens...their response was to wax the headlight lenses. It looked better for a day. Just got back from 24 month service, I put the foggy headlights on the list of things to check again, expecting to get the wax job again. I wasn't planning to argue about it. Anyway, they tell me there's a Toyota Service Bulletin out on this - TSB 0081-12, and that they ordered new Headlamp Assemblies and will call me next week when they arrive to set up appointment for replacement. Said they have an improved version that won't fog up.

Sounds like Toyota headquarters has acknowledged the problem and done something about it.

Hath anyone seen a copy of this T-SB-0081-12 that he speaketh of? I have done some searching and it has not made it on any of the published online tsb sites that I can find.

I had the dealer replace mine under warranty. He had to get it approved first than order them and they replaced both today.

I'm doing some 11th hour research while I'm still in country. Talked to the service department at Alexander Toyota of Yuma and they did confirm that TSB-0081-12 does indeed exsist.

They also stated that it only applies to certain VIN's...

I asked them to email me a copy of the TSB... now we wait...

sorry for bumping an old thread.

I was originally trying to find if there were any group buy ins for HID retrofit and stumbled upon this thread along the way. Got a 2011 TE and my headlights have had a haze for quiet some time. I took mine into the local dealership (Everett,WA) and they never seen this issue or heard about it before, but had no problems with ordering me a new set and will install it next week when they come in. I did print out the PDF that Diver Duece provided and all the info checked out. I don't know if that really persuaded them on anything though.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the thread and the information provided.

Huh? You don't know if a TSB addressing the issue is enough to persuade your dealer to fix no charge?
Please look very carefully at your whole front end and home and again with the Service Advisor before and after the assys are replaced. Check for damage. Check all the lights work. Check all gaps and fasteners. Grab the fender/bumper cover in front of the wheels and checking the amount of play and that the inner fender is mounted and secured the same as it was before the work.
My dealer broke the bumper mounts and installed (loose) the wrong screws in the wrong locations. Then damaged my hood 2 weeks later when fixing the first problem.

The TSB says the bulletin applies to vehicles produced before the production effective change VIN JTEBU5JR#C5077980. My VIN is JTEBU5JR2B50#####. I would think this means I am eligible right? I'm assuming 'B' comes before 'C' as 4Rs come out of the production line. Can someone confirm this? The service manager at my dealer says my 4Runner doesn't apply, but I don't think she read the bulletin carefully. Toyota corporate is already involved and is willing to at least give me $300 credit or if I can have an inspection and diagnosis done first at the dealer, they will reimburse me 100% for parts and labor based on the results

Sorry for resurrecting an ancient thread. My dealer is being an a$$ about this. I've inquired numerous times about this TSB everytime I've had maintenance done, but the service advisor always said they never heard of it. Now that I'm beyond the warranty period, the service manager at my dealer now says I'm no longer covered. I found it so odd how she was able to pull up the TSB so easily whereas in my past visits for every maintenance, the advisors never heard of it or can't find it.... so now I have corporate involved. Sucks my inquiries about my hazing headlights were never documented in any of my maintenance invoices.
