Potential Man-A-Fre Aux Fuel Tank

I have a possible solution in the works but I need your help. Man-a-fre makes an aux tank for the FJs (FJ CRUISER AUXILIARY TANK) that I used in my 2008 for nearly 100k miles before I switched to a 2011 TE. I am seriously missing the range it gave me. So much so that I just shipped my 4runner to Man-a-fre to have them install one.

Unfortunately, essentially everything is different from what they or I expected so they would be starting from scratch.They are willing and interested in doing the project and i'll be the guinnea pig, but they want to see that I am not the only one interested in having one of their aux tank on a 5th gen 4Runner.

Here's where I need your help. If you are interested in an aux tank from them, please reply, and even better, call them and make a deposit. No firm details at this point but here are some estimates.

Deposit req'd: $500
Pricing: $2,000ish
Capacity: 17-21gal

Tank would mount where the factory spare is located requiring removal of the cross member, I am also not using a rear sway bar to accommodate a Metaltech long travel rear suspension. Basically it would be very similar to the FJ set up in the link above.

I am definitely interested, just the wrong time for me as far as modification priorities/finances go. Not a cheap addition. Bump for this though, hopefully one will be available when I do decide to go this route

I was wondering how anyone could even afford to fill up an aux. tank but if he can afford to pay $2,000 for one then I guess that's not a problem. I doubt there will be many takers for a $2,000 tank though.

$2,000 is not a light price tag I agree. I will say that you get what you pay for, at least in my opinion. If you check out my photo album you can see some shots of the tank on my FJ. I set it on rocks multiple times and it didn't budge or dent. Install was pretty easy and straight forward.

The main reasons to do one of these tanks is to be able to fill one port at the gas station, double your travel distance between fill ups opening your trip opportunities, and lastly is not mainly to be able to pump as you go. You also can set up their gauge to tell you what you have left.

It puts the weight in one of the best possible positions, its always with you, and I think its just a very practical mod. I had mine set up to be able to fuel up my friends rigs and I could charge a premium for the fuel! just a simple splice, a valve, and making them get under the truck to pull it out.

Hey it is definitely not for everyone. I can see your point. I am simply asking those that are seriously considering or planning on doing a mod like this to step forward and make the plunge!

So, I just got the 4Runner back. I don't mean to thrash Man-A-Fre, but they didn't get the job done. It was scheduled to be completed in two weeks with testing. I called at the end of the first week and they said it couldn't be done unless they could keep the vehicle for another six weeks and I would end up paying something around $5,000.

I offered to leave it with them for anther three weeks and a healthy budget, but they "didn't want to commit to something they couldn't make good on. I wish that would have been the case with their first commitment to get it done when we had planned.

I found another outfit that seems competent and the timing and pricing are much more competitive. They have already fabricated a FJ cruiser tank that seems to have turned out well.

I will update this is September after things should be wrapped up and operational.

Definitely keep us updated. I think there are a few folks here that would be interested in an aux tank, but definitely not for $2k. So, I hope the new place has some better price models.

September because I will be out of town while its in the shop. Price point should be > $2,000. I am also planning to install a spare carrier on the bumper in the interim.

I don't understand why toyota doesn't give us the option of a factory auxiliary fuel tank as is offered on the Australian 2013 FJ Cruiser. It would make all our lifes a lot easier.
