Powdercoating Skid Plate?

Has anyone Powdercoated the Skid plate on their Aftermarket bumper? (Shrock, CBI, Etc)

My Shrockworks bumper comes in a month, and I am on the fence about what color to do.

Black to blend with the bumper
Orange to match my emblem.
Red to Match the Gas tank

Has anyone Powdercoated their Skids?? If so post some pics

Why would you want too? The powder coat will be gone after the first rock. Anything underneath would be better off with spray. It just seems like it would be a waste of money.

I agree, waste of money! Rattle can is much cheaper and easier to touch up.

My understanding is that Budd Builts come powder coated, but honestly they are skids, they are going to be scratched and tore up, If there's a cheap option when you buy the skids, I say go for it, otherwise just rattle can them.

The skid plate comes silver. Ill prob just leave it as is or RC it.

If you properly powder coat it then it will not be gone with the first rock at all.

The problem is that too many folks do a piss poor job with powder coating. I can tell you that a good powder coating will have phenomenal results with stone chip testing - including cold stone chip. I know because my lab develops the coatings and tests them.

If you want the best results possible here is what you need the shop to do:

1. Properly prepare the skid plate (sand blast).
2. Pretreat with a good Iron or Zinc Phosphate.
3. Apply a quality epoxy or hybrid powder coating primer.
4. Apply a quality TGIC powder coating topcoat.

A properly powder coated part will outlive the truck's service life.
