Power antenna conversion... new question?

First, I know there are countless threads on the power antenna woes and conversion options, so please bear with me!

Looking into this for myself, I found a product that claims to convert the power antenna to a stubby 6-3/4 stationary whip and utilizes the motorized antenna base. Has anybody tried one of these who can speak to whether they work or are worth $60?

Yes; they work but the reception isn't as good as I think it should be. I think it should come with a taller whip/flexible antenna. It's on the 01 T4R I'm rebuilding right now.

Had the same problem with the 98 T4R and I didn't want to spend the money so I just pulled the antenna, clipped the plastic gear thing, then reinstalled it. The antenna motor runs for about 7 seconds when I turn off the car and probably when I start the car but with the radio on I don't hear it. Radio reception is as good as stock usually is which is pretty good.

I read about someone simply clipping off the plastic geared line then gently crimping each spot in the stock antenna where it expands so he can put it down to wash the rig. It's on my list of things to try.

As for this one with the adapter; I think I'll try a longer antenna since I already spent the money.

Feedback appreciated... we were manually raising/lowering the factory mast until it got eaten by the car wash, doh! was optimistic for an easy fix... Too bad you cant buy just the adapter for a decent price, I did read that the manufacturer redesigned the 6-3/4 antenna in January (2019) so its possible that there is an updated whip with the new listing, but who knows.

Let us know if a different whip works out... ought to be able to install just about anything with the right thread adapter I would think

I couldn't help but notice the adapter itself is probably a $2 part; cheaper if made in China. Just some rolled tin with a keeper on top like the stock setup. Someone is making too much money on these at $60. I don't mind paying for quality but I don't like overpaying. Legit price with taller antenna should be in the $25 range. Just my humble opinion.

I had that kit from amazon. Ended up returning it as the adaptor never got the antenna tight. Finally its just kept spinning. Also the reception was horrible. Id pass on this setup.

Thought I would chime in on this as it is our product in question.

Product spinning when tightened: Our conversion sleeve that inserts into the power antenna tube where the old mast was, will spin when the antenna is tightened onto it. It is designed this way as the insert is a floating part in the antenna tube. This spinning does not pose an issue, the important part is that the sleeve is held into the antenna tube so it does not come out.

Reception: Our 6 3/4" antenna may not be the best choice for all locations. Due to the much shorter size it will not have the range the factory 31"+ antennas have, so it will not be the greatest option in more distant and rural locations. It is a very durable antenna and is close to being indestructible. We do have an array of different antenna lengths of multiple different materials, we can pair our conversion kit with whatever option of your choice but the 6 3/4" is the default. The closest reception option to the factory power antenna mast is the 31" Spring Steel. If you want to pair the kit with a different length or currently have our product and would like to opt for a different antenna size just give me a call, we are located here up in Wisconsin.
