Power Antenna Problems

I can not figure out the problem with my stereo. It is an aftermarket CD player. It comes on when it wants not when I want it to. I can hear a noise under the dash when it is coming on and off b/c sometimes it comes on and goes right back off. I have checked the fuses. Help!

When this happens the power antenna does not come up when I turn on the truck. When the radio does decide to work it seems that it is b/c the antenna gets power and will raise and the radio works fine. But then by itself it cuts off and the antenna retracts.

i would think when the radio is off it should be off. you need to pull the fuse to it completely
for now , it could very well cause you a world of probs like a fire.

my old 93 truck has something like this going on too. with radio off i hear static coming from my dash as im driving . now i dont have power antenna on that old truck and radio does work. might be time for new radios for both of us? and maybe antennas also

pull that radio fuse out and chant with me . no fire no fire no fire :lol:

Interesting. I'm thinking this through out loud: A fuse alone would not power up the unit/antennae. The fuse COULD compete an already open circuit if it exists and there is a problem also with the fuse holder. Unlikely though if you ask me. Sounds like there could be a short with the power on circuit most likely in the radio itself? And I assume the antennae runs from a remote power on wire. is the unit hard wired independent of the factory harness or is the factory harness/plug used? It seems to me that problems up under the dash are common, I know I have an issue with heating a/c harness. I would try wiring it direct and see if that helps.

Turned out to be loose fuse after all. I had already taken the fuse out and checked it. But the truck was off. I did it with the ignition on it and the radio came on when I pushed really hard and has stayed on since.
