power loss, poor timing?

hey guys, having trouble with my 4runner. So heres the deal:

My 22re has an EB head, 261 cam, obx header, cold air intake, full 2.5 exhaust, fully rebuilt 4k ago.

my problem is this:

when i try to time my engine, I can either have the distributer all the way CW or if i move the distributer a tooth, i can have it all the way CCW to get it close to 5 degrees BTDC. now, my initial thought, was I was off a tooth on the timing chain. so i took the cover off, and checked. cam is lined up perfect, with the cam pin at 12 oclock, and the gear dot just slightly left of 12 o clock. which is perfect form what ive read.

so, my second thought: could my throttle position sensor be the problem?

theres also a slight tick going on in my engine, no exhaust leaks, not from the valves (all adjusted perfectly), so im hoping this also has to do with my screwed up timing issue.

my engine runs fine. but i know I should be getting way more power, as some guys with the same setup have said they've been able to spin their 35" tires!

any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated, ill upload a video of the ticking ASAP.

WAY more power lol remember a 5,000$ 22re from LCE still only puts out 185hp.
well i would test the TPS if you think its a issue then it takes 5min to test it, see my signature for the 4crawler website the tps testing is on there

you are jumping the connector before attempting to time it, right?

yes, ive been jumping the connectors, im gonna go grab an ohm meter today and test my tps! ill post the results with a video later, thanks :)

Your engine build is very similar to mine. I'm able to spin my rear tires in 1st gear. They're not burning out for a long time by any stretch, but I still have enough power to spin the tires and hold 75-80 mph on the freeway without any issue.

How is your idle? Is it consistent when the engine is warmed up or does it fluctuate a lot? Also, you're trying to time it when the engine is warm right?

Are you getting any CEL codes for any other misc things?

Another thing to take a peek at is your timing light connection for the #1 plug wire. Make sure that the wire and the plug isn't resting on any other spark plug wires. That will give your timing light a lot of interference and you'll get a bad reading.
