Power not getting to the ground in Reverse?

Bit of a noob question...
I was out wheelin the other weekend have a blast as always a friend of mine runnin an 87 model 4r got stuck as we were goin through about a 1' deep worth of mud in one area. He's at stock height with radial street tires so he high centered pretty quick. I was nosed up to his rear an to save a little time i just hooked the snatch strap to my front toe hooks an tried to pull him in reverse. I've read somewhere that the 1st gear low and reverse low areclose to the same gear ratios. I was in 4H with the center diff locked. when i loaded up to pull back only the rear tires spun and it didnt feel like anything was being trasnfered to the front wheels. I unhooked turned around and yanked him right out with all 4 wheels diggin hard and throwin taters on my buddies back door. My main concern would be weather or not this is normal. I'll add that I've completly eliminated my traction control and stability control systems the only active system would be ABS. thanks in advance for any input!!

reverse gear is inherently the weakest link on a transmissions and usually operated by the 1-2 shift band servo. if you break reverse you will also lose 1 and 2 so dont do it unless it is a last case scenario.

fortunately I haven't lost the gear yet lol it's just not transfering through to both axels 50/50 when the center diff lock is on while it reverse going forward everything digs the way it's supposed to and according to Toyota the transfer case is locked in reverse and forward when center diff lock is engaged. the truck drives fine no noises or rattles like something's broken just poor reverse performance in loose traction. I've found a rather knowledgable Toyota tech we have plans to get the truck off road soon an see what we can trouble shoot. I don't use reverse regularly off road lol typically I'm heading towards the fun not running away. but there are situations I have to readjust my line where I would certainly need all four tires trying to move the truck so def. still looking into this problem

I was referring to using reverse when recovering another vehicle, I didn't really have any insight as to why power wasn't transferring to the front wheels so I thought I'd at least be helpful and give you a tip.
