I just picked up my new 4 Runner on Monday. How are others working a radar detector and cell phone for power? I am somewhat disappointed that there is not a dash mounted power source for the radar detector. Any other thoughts regarding this matter?

I also wish there was a memory function for the seats and mirrors as my wife's and my settings are significantly different.

Any other thoughts/suggestions for a new owner?

Get the ash tray kit for a second power port up front. Works great, especially if you don't smoke.

5-minute install. If you can assemble Legos, you can install the ash tray kit.

Your not alone on this one....it sucks that the only way to get that memory is in the Limited and also the power seat too. What is it with the Japs...they build a great ride but can't give us what we want in accessories. Its not just Toyota either. I hear you Bro....

Installed the ashtray kit today. Better with the additional power outlet but still not on the dash where I would like to plug in the Smokey detector rather than having the cord hang down near the gear shift. Anyone hard wired a radar detector into the overhead console?

I have mine hard wired in. Nice and clean. I have it positioned in the lower left windshield with the wire being run down the left pillar of the car. Looks nice and clean

You can but power outlet kits at radioshack for pretty cheap, then tap into the existing wires and install the outlet wherever you like. I did this and put it in the glove box so i can charge my mp3 player which is mounted to the left side of the AC controls. That way i dont have another cord running in front of the console. It was really easy to install and way cheaper then the ashtray mod.

No, i wired it so its switched like the existing one. I really didnt have a need for it to be charging if the car isnt on. If its low it still will play while its plugged in, and i never use it if the car is off.

Thanks. I've been thinking about putting one in that's always on, but still undecided. The F150 had it and it was really handy for cell-phone charging when you're at places where you can't take the phone with you (church events, etc.).

Yeah, it wouldnt be any harder to install, just need to find out which wire is always hot. A look at the wiring diagram would tell you and then the rest of it is a snap.
