I've done some tinting in my day and thought it might be easier with pre-cut window tint..so, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried pre-cut window tint? if so, from where? likes/dislikes?
thanks

Good question. I've seen them on Ebay. My question is how do get the tint to smooth out on the front part of the front windows where the door panel covers the window a little bit? Remove the door panel? seems like a pain just to get the windows tinted.

I've done some research on window tinting and reached the conclusion that DIY is probably not a good idea. Better off paying for a professional job, even then you have to be careful because some shops suck.

If you ever had to remove funky old tint, especially from glass with defroster lines, you know why you want it done right.

If you do it yourself with the cheap stuff on ebay, I would count on seeing discoloration, air bubbles, and distorted vision. It's better to spend the extra money to get it done right. Especially for something like that.

I've done alot of tinting and consider myself pretty good...but I'm older now, and lazier, so I thought this precut stuff might make it easier....

All the good shops also use pre-cut tint. They basically feed the tint into a machine and enter the vehicle information into the computer. It cuts it perfectly for each application.

Just because it's pre-cut doesn't make it low quality. They can use ANY tint in the machine, from cheap crap to high end stuff like Llumar tint.

I had mine done by a pro shop, and they used Llumar cut by the machine. It came out awesome.

tint

My Sport has pretty dark tinted windows behind the front seat windows. Almost privacy tint. The front windows seem about like a 35% or thereabouts.
There isn't a film on them. Was this an option or standard on newer models? Mines an 07.
Don't think I'll need to do anything to it.
And puppy proof is nice! :happy bda

Yeah, everybody has factory tint in the back. Most guys just want to tint the driver and passenger side windows to match the factory tint on the rest of the glass.

The previous owner of mine went all out with the rear tint which is close to 5% and the fronts are 15-20% on mine and IMO darker is better.

:iagree:

i put 5% over the factory tint, and on the front windows. it does make it hard to back up at night, though!!

you don't wanna buy pre-cut tint if you want it to look good. if you can work all the bubbles out, that's a good DIY, but the cheap pre-cut from AutoZone or other places like that will fade terribly. it will turn blue or purple and has a tendency to peel a lot easier than gettin it done professionally. i feel if you're gonna spend the money to tint your windows, do it professionally or else you'll be spendin more money in the future re-doin it or you'll be back to your normal untinted windows in no time.

i got mine done professionally and its got life-time warranty. that's another plus to not DIY. i haven't had one problem with mine...

I put 20% over my factory glass in the back and 20% on the two front doors. I originally went in to have only the front doors done but noticed a difference in the after market tint as compared to the factory glass. Someone else might not have noticed the difference, I'm anal and did so I spent a few extra buck to get the whole thing done.

I must say, I like the darker back windows! But as someone mentioned above, backing up a night is a little harder (good thing the Nav unit has a back up camera!).

I don't get why people like 5%. You can't see ****!! You are blocking 95% of the light. Roll a window down 1/2 way and look out at night. Look at the things you can see out of the LIT (open) window that disappear through the tint.
You aren't seeing things you should see.

if you like to pick your nose while you drive, you have to go with 5%!!

well, after some additional research, I ordered from snaptint.com...I probably wont get to the install for a while, but I'll be sure to do a quick write up. btw, I ordered 35% all the way around.
