Previous generation 4Runner was better

I don't know about the mechanicals of the previous generation, I can just say that based on looks alone the previous generation was never on my list, I just don't like the look, the 5th generation to me, looks more traditional, I like boxy on an SUV. I plan on keeping my 4runner 10-20 years maybe more. The Trail edition looks are really what I noticed first, but the Trail edition was a little bit out of my range and difficult to find when it came time to buy.

I have an 07 Sport Edition v8 4wd. I like the power of the 8 but I think the 2012 LE is much more refined. Its a personal choice. I think the bigger question is the GX460 better than the LE. I was underwhelmed by the Lexus at $20K+ more. The 6 speed on the Lexus with the V8 seemed more anemic than the V6 on the LE. I think people don't realize the additional gears totally change the feel of the vehicles between 4th and 5th gen. Drive the Lexus and I think you'll think the 4.6L V8 isn't all that.

Here is why the GX is $20K more!

This is a silly argument. Choosing the best 4runner is like choosing the best Victoria's Secret model....you can't really go wrong.

Yeah, but to some of these people their version is "best" and they will argue their point forever. V8's for example: I could care less about the low RPM higher torque curve of a V8. If I needed something to tow heavy things with it would NOT be a 4Runner. Too many better tow vehicles out there. Lexus vs. Toyota: If I wanted the luxury I would have bought a Lexus - simple. No comparision. So really it seems some are "justifying" based on their own feelings and made up data (5G too slow for example).

More like $70K+ or $25K+ more than a 4Runner LE with those options and at that price I'm looking/no buying the Porsche Cayenne S because why would you buy a Lexus when you can have a Porsche?

The main reason I passed on the GX460 was I was really disappointed with the performance of the Lexus. All the buttons, warning lights, adjustable suspension, cameras, chimes, burled woods couldn't overcome the short shifting, anemic feel of the Lexus. I will say the low speed steering is better on the GX however.

Exactly! If we needed something for towing, why not get a 2500 diesel. Enjoy what you have and don't bash on it, but while y'all are deciphering which is better and which is worse, I'm gonna take my happy ass out for a drive in my TE and enjoy the heck outta it. :flipoff:

You don't buy a real SUV (truck) for high performance! My GX had a MSRP of $66K and paid $59K (invoice) and I have most all of these options, except the accident avoidance and radar stuff (I special ordered). You can not compare a Porsche S (which should never leave the pavement) to a real truck. You talk about money, the S starts at $65K! To get a S with the options I have in my GX, you're talking $90K (and that's without the high end nannies).

I priced up a GX, with a good stereo and things you'd expect in a luxury SUV it will be $70k. Lexus makes squishy vehicles in general. When shopping for my last car I need AWD and 4 doors. The IS250 is a slush box and not to mention SMALL. The ES will put you to sleep (wasn't AWD either) and the GS350 AWD was nice but drove like a barge. I ended up with my G35x as it had personality, something all the Lexus cars I tested lacked. I'd be willing to bet there are just as many Cayenne's off road as there are GX's. Bottom line, buy what you like and that's okay because its what you like. Plenty of people buy IS, GS, ES Lexus cars and love them. Great, just not for me. Same goes with the GX or the 4th gen or insert vehicle here.

I see your point, but how much you wanna bet :pimp: Check out Your Online Offroad 4x4 Tech Resource - IH8MUD.com - Internet resource of 4wd addicts, sharing knowledge and information. :: Your Online Offroad 4×4 Tech Resource – IH8MUD.com I have not seen anyone lift a Cayenne and go crawling (because you can't). Different strokes for different folks.

I got the Pemium GX with the Mark Levinson, wide-view monitoring system, crawl control, park assist and the towing package (special order) for $59K.

There is a BIG difference between the IS250 and IS350 AWD. I have a IS350 2wd and spank G35s and G37s at will.

I ran 13.4-5s stock and 13.3 with just a JoeZ intake tube (drop-in filter) and a cat back. When stock I have beaten stock Gs everytime (at least a dozen times). The only stock car in my class that was right there was the 335i.
