Price check on 07 4runner Sport

Hello all,

I currently own a 99 Limited with 210k miles. I'm having an itch to upgrade and am either going to upgrade into a 4th gen now or wait it out for 4-5 more years for a 5th gen.

I'm looking at an 07 Sport (silver) V6 with 101k miles on it. The seller (small dealer) is asking for $16,500 for it. It's a one owner vehicle, pretty decent condition. The rear bumper had to be replaced and there is some rust underneath (it is from New York).

What do you guys think, is this overpriced? I feel like Nada and KBB are of no help when buying a 4runner.

I live in Utah for what it's worth.

Do they salt the roads where you are? I live in the south and would never buy a car from where they salt the roads in the winter like I believe they do in NY. Maybe I am wrong on the NY thing.

My suggestion is to buy from an individual who is either the first or second owner. Maybe third owner if it checks out OK. The better deals price wise and a known history of the vehicle comes from individual owners.
 
seems high IMHO. i picked up my 1 owner, babied '05 with just under 100k for $14k (receipts of timing belt included!) a couple years ago, and that was in CO where 4runners fetch a premium!
 
I'd have to advise not to get anything from that far north or east.

I picked up my 2007 v6 limited with 110k for 12.5k out of Cincinnati area.

I was trying to save a ton over the inflated prices of the Pacific NW. It had all the local dealer records. When I flew to Cincy to check it out, I didn't think that there was much rust on it.

There's been enough rust that its caused a bunch of repairs:

Rusted shut rear diff breather - new axle seals driver side
Two new brake calipers.
The gas lid hing was rusted away (still need to properly fix, I replaced it with too soft of steel wire)
All the door actuators, yes rusted and the motors were burnt up, I tried cleaning them up and reusing them (except the rear)

And every-time I work in it there always a snapped bolt or something new.

The frame and skids don't look that bad its all the nuts and bolts.

Luckily, everything I did with this 4runner I did myself (including two new front axles, new ball joints, new front sway bars, ect). Otherwise it would have cost more then buying a local 4runner.
 
You guys act like northeast cars crumble to dust....I've never had any rust on any of my vehicles...

That said, that 4runner your looking at sounds like a terrible deal. I'd keep looking. Took me a few months to find the right one.
 
I have to agree with everyone. I have been seeing a lot of low mileage trucks shipped everywhere for sale on dealer lots. I would steer clear of any truck for on a lot in another state. Rust would be the first thing but odometer fraud would be another.
 
North east tends to be higher priced. I got lucky on my 03 v8 sport 4wd with 127,000 miles. Paid $8900. My boss likes it so much he started looking for one. Couldn't find anything with less then 160,000+miles for around $10,000 and thats a Sr5. He did however get lucky and just found one for $8000 in Philly with 140k in the Sr5 model 4x4.

With a cracked exhaust manifold? I would not touch it for near that price.

if i was in tampa id take a look for you.. but this seems to be a really good deal.. assuming the accident wasn't bad.. still has a clear title.. timing belt wasn't done, but a florida car its whole life..

Or flood damage...all kinds of reasons to be wary. The price mentioned by the OP doesn't sound that out of line but I would want to be able to verify why a NY truck is being sold so far from there (previous owner moved, etc.).

I got my silver 07 sport with 103k miles last February. It was listed at 16,500 I ended up getting it down to about 15,000.

to see if the truck has some rust protector and see if the rear hatch latches easily. Sometimes it's worth paying a bit more for a car if it's really in great condition. Im in the bay area and for that year, mileage and trim level that doesnt sound too expensive.
 
You have to decide what you're buying. So often I see people hung up on getting a "good deal" that will impress their friends and folks on the internet. If that's what you're after, then run all the prices past us and we'll cheer or boo as the case may be.

If what you are really after is a solid vehicle that will meet all your needs, shop for quality and don't worry too much about the price. Whether the vehicle is $17K or $15K is not nearly as significant in the long run as whether or not it's in great shape and has the features you want.

Any vehicle is overpriced if it doesn't meet your needs.
 
Great advice. We paid $19K out the door in November 2014 for an '07 Sport with 96K. I'm sure some feel that was too much, but I wanted 4WD and a sunroof and got both, the vehicle was absolutely spotless and well-maintained, and the dealer fixed the busted 4WD actuator before we took delivery.

Then there's the market. I had been looking - hard - for nearly a year and found nothing in metro Atlanta. We found our truck in Greenville, SC. I asked an Atlanta dealer sales guy what the deal was because I never saw 4WD 4Runners online or on lots here. He said, "When I take in a 4Runner like that, somebody driving by stops and buys it before I can even take the photos to put online." And we only got the chance to buy ours because the couple trying to buy it when we got to the dealership couldn't qualify for the loan they needed.

So if what I paid was what it took to get the exact truck I had been waiting for - and lucky me, it's even the color I wanted - then I really don't care whether anyone else thinks the deal was good enough. :-D

Just got my 08 sr5 4wd with v6 for 10,300 on ebay. Has 127k on it. Good shape, needed tires so I got some 265 70 17s. Ebay is a good spot to look, but check the car over very well and check the sellers feedback. Mine was from a small dealer and the big selling point was the full service records were listed on carfax.
