Long time lurker here, love the writeups and mod threads. I've been looking to get into a 4runner for a couple of years now, previously looked at the 4th Gen and now I think I'm pretty set on getting a 5th Gen. I stumbled upon a 2010 4runner 4wd SR5 with 36k miles. The dealership told me their bottomline was $29.5. Before I go off of emotion and buy the vehicle outright, do you guys think thats a good deal? If not, what price do you all think is fair for me to pay?

Call up your local dealer, and ask for the name of their fleet manager, then have them transfer you. Ask him his price for a new equivalent 4runner. Fleet Managers that sell to the public will give the lowest price they can sell the car for as their first offer. In my experience that has been $200 over dealer invoice. They will even send a breakdown of the price sheet. For a Base SR5 with no options, you can probley get a new one for somewhere around $33k, give or take. At that point, you have to decide whether it is worth a couple of thousand to buy new vs used... Also, is the used one certified, or as is?

My local dealers fleet manager is gave me a quote of $34,981 for a 2013 SR5 with Convenience + 3rd Row (which retails for $37,150) as the initial offer. If you go through the fleet manager, you can get a very good deal, without haggling or dealing with the usual car salesmen BS. Plus you can just meet with the Fleet Manager, the they will do everything for you, and you don't have to bounce around to different departments to finalize the sale.

4runners hold their value so well, it really isn't worth it to buy a slightly used one over a new one.

That is a great point, thank you so much for the input. Originally I was going to just look for a used one to save some cash but if I can find a new one or extremely gently used it would be worth it to pay a few thousand extra. Thanks so much
