price for new brake pads/rotors on 2004 SE?

I'm starting to get quotes for new pads and rotors (or turning the rotors) on a 2004 SE and was curious what everyone would consider a reasonable price to pay either a stealership or independent shop.

I already tried my local stealership and after 10 minutes of trying to explain what I wanted done they came back with a quote of $1300. I laughed and hung up!

Just replaced pads and rotors at 166k over the weekend. Flushed fluid as well. It's amazing what new stuff does to an old 4Runner.

Do it yourself! You have to have a buddy relative or co worker that knows how to do it. Buy them a 18 pack and lunch and that should be good enough. $1300 is insane but people with money and no knowledge probably pay it all the time. It's pretty straight forward and simple enough if you watch a you tube video or even buy a cheapy service manual from autozone or w/e local auto parts store you prefer. Jack, jack stands a metric tool set and a $30 craftsman torque wrench should get you through it.

Definitely do it yourself it's not that difficult. I ordered all the parts on rockauto, centric pads, rotors, calipers, and did it myself. It seems intimidating at first but once you step back and plan it out, it's not that hard. I can't believe $1300, shoot I'll do it for $1000! LOL

I JUST ordered a set of front rotors and pads for my 04 for about 130 from advance using discount codes. These are to go with the 2010 calipers I ordered from Rock. I think the 04s are a little cheaper. Watch a youtube or find a buddy, it's pretty easy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up finding a dealer not too far away that had a "special" for the front pads and on-vehicle rotor cut for just over $200, which seemed reasonable. Since this was only the second pad change in the life of the truck (I'm light on the brakes) the rotors had plenty of life left in them.

Will probably do the rears myself, but they probably have another 10k miles left in them
