installed my rack today on my runner, this thing is badass. The install is pretty straight forward, i did put some anti seize on the screws and they felt much better going in. It's definitely a two person job, Didn't have anybody to help me lift the rack, so i had to do it redneck style. there is a bit of wind noise going down the highway but hopefully when i get my rubber trim it'll quiet down a bit.

Drooling over here! Nice engineering job on lifting rack in place. Too bad Prinsu design didn't do more testing with wind noise but hopefully the rubber trim will help. Would make nervous personally having rubber trim touching paint and rubbing with micro vibrations. Then again my tailgate 4runner logo has ruined paint and have rust all over it and Toyota won't warranty. Can you stand on top of the rack now?

there is some clear film that you can get to prevent the rubber trim from rubbing on the paint. i'm sure you can stand on it. the crossbars are removable you can just put a few or you can put as many as you want so you can walk on it.

the rack is very versatile you can have as many or as little crossbar as you want. the crossbars have "tnuts" that you can slide the lenght of the crossbar for tiedowns.

My thing is with the RTT and how it might be hard to get on. But then I thought about it and I could just unscrew the two crossbars that the RTT is attached to and remove it then just put it back on went its time. Leave the Prinsu cross bars on the tent.

I'm intrigued by the Prinsu rack, but I have a question on the crossbars. Are the ends of the crossbars in a slot on the inner face of the side rails? Or are they just butted into the inner face of the side rails and held in place by the two screws?

If the latter, I'm concerned that even if I have a dozen crossbars, the two that I happen to have my kayaks or RTT attached to are the only ones carrying the load.

Hopefully I'm seeing the assembly incorrectly, or the fasteners are of sufficient size to avoid problems. I'm certainly not trying to bash the design.

If you want me to save you the time....been reading since I posted it....I'm convinced on this rack system. It can support the weight of two adults in RTT plus gear, modularity, price, etc... I'm sold.

Thanks for the input. Once my 4Runner comes in, I'll be swapping my current rack systems over to it. But I suspect that it won't be what I want, and a new rack system will be high on the priority list.

I like the modularity features of the Prinsu, because now when I swap between my bike/kayak/awning configuration to my basket/awning/light bar configuration, I have to swap clamps, rails, etc. with the Prinsu, it would just be swapping the two crossbars. Plus adding a RTT will be easier by adding two more dedicated crossbars.

you have to drill. the front mounts have spacers that's attached to the vehicle. it's not bad at all, make sure you measure and remeasure. and you seal it off with some silicone.

I love the look, the cost, and the functionality of this rack. The only concern for me too is drilling into my roof.

I'm curious on how the front of a Gobi rack mounts and if I could just fab a bracket to rest in the same spot you should drill to help absorb the weight. Anyone got any ideas or pics on how other racks mount towards the front?
