Prinsu vs Frontrunner Input?

Any opinions on these two roof racks, would love to hear from someone who has had both. I like the options for the frontrunner but I think the prinsu looks better also can't really find any great frontrunner pictures and the one on there sight makes the rack look really short?

Hey oldman,

Have you searched? Not sure if you will find someone that has had both, but I am sure you can dig up lots of reading on both separately. There is a group buy thread on Prinsu you may want to read. Zach seems to be a victim of his own success at present, I think he has been pretty overextended lately. He is a small, part time operation and the communication and wait times can be tough. My Prinsu rack is still in the box, I am going to install it after I detail the truck for the warm season.

Have you tried using the search function? not to be difficult or anything but I've found everything I need on these forums or Google using the function.

I've recently purchased the Prisnu rack based on the info I've found on this forums, Tacomaworld and Expedition Portal. All the initial info I found here first.

The Front runner rack appears to have more readily available mounting options as they are obviously a much larger business than Zach over at Prisnu. However, it is up to you on how large of a 'footprint' you want for your roof rack.

I purchased it because it was light weight (aluminum) and how low profile it was. I also liked it because I was supporting a small business, in my mind anyway.

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks guys and yes I have searched the forum. There is not much info on the frontrunner and most of the info on the prinsu is basically I put it on and like it. Not very helpful, both racks are aluminum and I have seen the frontrunner on several landrovers and cruisers and they are very well built and cover the whole roof which does not look like the case on the 4runner.

4runner Prinsus are still pretty much in their infancy in regards to being out there...

You wont find much on here - Most of them are on Tacomas.

You are more than likely to find Front Runner reviews and pictures. The reason you see the front runner rack as being short in the pictures is because it really is... short.

There are two sizes - 3/4 and full size.

The full length racks for people with sunroofs require drilling.

I've had the Prinsu rack on my 4th gen for a year now and I know of a couple of other local 4th gens who have them, but they aren't active on this forum. They primarily use their rack to mount their RTTs. I use mine a cargo box and gear. I can offer some comments on that rack but not the Front Runner rack.

I wouldn't bother with Prinsu. Took me almost 12 weeks to get my rack after being told 4 weeks. There are a couple guys on TW that have been waiting weeks after being told week after week that it was going to ship to the point that the mods closed the Prinsu thread until Zach responds to them. There's been major communication issues with Zach and rumor is he's in the process of selling his design to a major buyer, which likely means a massive price increase.

So buyer beware with Prinsu right now.

You and some of the T4R GB guys really got screwed on projected lead times and the horrible communication. After all of that, did you get your rack mounted?

I wasn't even part of the group buy, haha. I ordered March 1st, received May 19. It was ridiculous and I didn't even start getting answers until I blasted him publicly on TW. Fortunately I was at home when it got delivered and I installed same day. Still debating on whether I want to paint it, but the bare aluminum is kind of growing on me.

I have a Prinsu rack and like it so far. Like Drunner97 said the wait was long. 12 weeks for mine after being told 4. He did send me the incorrect wind faring with my order and was expecting a long wait to get the correct part but had it in a week.

You can use most of front runners accessories on the Prinsu rack.

I know people love the front runners but they were a little shorter and did not cover the whole roof and that is what I liked about the Prinsu.

Do you have any pictures posted of the mounted rack? I'd like to see the bare aluminum.

I don't recall seeing the rack in bare aluminum before. It looks good. I also like the steelies. :thumb3:

Thanks, yeah I've made some changes since the last time you saw it. Bumpers are up next I'm hoping. The aluminum has grown on me so I think I'm going to keep it bare.

Ordered my prinsu last week. Made my decision on the price and aesthetics of the Prinsu over the frontrunner. My 3rd full length roof rack and there usually is a pretty long turn around time on the "mom and pop" accessories like this. My fierst 2 racks were steel and on my old 3rd gen. I cant speak for either the Prinsu or Frontrunner from experience, and I doubt youll find some one that has owned both, but what you can find in various threads can be greatly helpful.

On another note there was a 4th gen 4runner Frontrunner rack for sale in the classified section here or on expo about a week back. Still might be available...

You can also look into Gamiviti. My rack is at the powder coater right now, and I'll be picking it up next week.

Since he's local to me (Denver) I had a chance to meet him in person and see the racks/options.

Check them out if you want another option to weigh :)

Roof Racks ? Gamiviti

Good luck. They shut down the Prinsu thread on TW because Zach quit responding to people.

I'm bummed that I waited too long to pull the trigger on the Prinsu rack. A friend of mine put one on his Tacoma a year or so ago... great design! If he does sell the design, I'd hope that the new company would launch on the forums with a group buy.
