Problem with YitaMotor LED dome light

How's it going guys? I ordered and installed the YitaMotor interior LED kit that several other forum members had recommended. Install went well and the improved interior lighting was great. About 5 days after install however, I noticed an acrid electrical burning smell and much to my dismay I found that the overhead dome festoon bulb had overheated to the point of burning up and melting the plastic bulb housing. Upon removing the housing I've found that it seems to be hard wired as it doesn't have a simple plug to disconnect and replace the housing. Does anyone have a part number for the housing and/or instructions for R&R? I've got an email in to YitaMotor to see if they're willing to help rectify this issue.

Bummer on a new truck! (To you). Are the second and third pictures the same part? Hard to tell, I would assume you could order that from Camelback Toyota. They usually have diagrams as well to help. Somewhere around here is a technical manual.

Yeah, second and third pictures are the same part Jhalko. Just front and back of the dome housing. I'll check on Camelback, see if I can't find it. Thanks!

Ugh, buuuummer, that sucker exploded good...How long was it on?

Yeah LED's can get hot, real hot, obviously as you just found out. In my humblest of opinions if you are going to use interior LED's stick with a more conservative Sylvania or Philips LED. I say this because chances are they are running a proper voltage, proper heat sinks, and not over-driving the LED to make it brighter. I have a few license plate, taillights, backups, and one in the hatch to see if it is going to get too hot before I put an additional in. So far I haven't had any issues

Over the course of 4 days it seemed to be doing fine, but on the morning of the 5th it just went. Wasn't on for more than 6 or 7 minutes while I was breaking down a camp site. Clearly that was too much. I was hoping that these ones would be ok since other members seem to have had good luck, but clearly I was wrong. Now I'm concerned about the rest of them that I've got in the interior and license plate. Granted they're not the same type as the one that overheated, but still concerning

Have you tried a salvage yard? I'd think a dome light would survive most accidents and there should be quite a few around.

With a little help from the 2010 FSM that's available on this board, I was able to figure out the removal of the entire dome light housing. Once you free it from the headliner there are three clips to separate the actual wired section that holds the bulb from the larger plastic housing that clips into the headliner and secures the lens. Once separated you are able to remove a small cover with 4 clips to expose a vampire tap type connection for the 3 factory wires. Removal simply involves pulling the stock wires out of the little blade holders and reinstallation will simply be pushing the wires into the new blade holders in the same orientation where the sheath is already cut. If anyone is actually interested in this I'll take some photos to make the steps much more clear. Headed to the dealer tomorrow to see if the part is available.

Did you end up getting the new part installed? Can you post a few pics?
